Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)

So yeah, I've had a ringing in my ears since my teenage concert years. Over the past few months, the ringing in my left ear has become annoyingly loud without reason. I always wear protection when discharging firearms or using loud equipment like chainsaws, so I'm not sure what's aggravating the condition.

There's no cure and I'm not asking for advice. I'm just wondering if anyone here suffers the same, and if so, does it ever abate to any degree?

(And yes, I have an appointment with the doc next month and I'll bring it to his attention).

I get the temporary Tinnitus every now and then. the one where it lasts about a minute or so.

SO YEAH, I'VE HAD A RINGING IN MY EARS SINCE MY TEENAGE CONCERT YEARS. OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS, THE RINGING IN MY LEFT EAR HAS BECOME ANNOYINGLY LOUD WITHOUT REASON. I ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTION WHEN DISCHARGING FIREARMS OR USING LOUD EQUIPMENT LIKE CHAINSAWS, SO I'M NOT SURE WHAT'S AGGRAVATING THE CONDITION.

THERE'S NO CURE AND I'M NOT ASKING FOR ADVICE. I'M JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HERE SUFFERS THE SAME, AND IF SO, DOES IT EVER ABATE TO ANY DEGREE?

(AND YES, I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DOC NEXT MONTH AND I'LL BRING IT TO HIS ATTENTION).

I had a friend years ago that had the same affliction, it always sucked when we went to a crowded bar or other similar loud places, it was obvious it bothered him. He used to play in a band playing drums but he had to step down due to the noise. He plays occaisionaly though.

For me, I would notice a slight ringing but only if the place I was in was really quiet.  I'm not sure if that's the same thing, though.

Yeah I've always heard it since my teens when things were quite (queue the sleep fan), but here lately it's louder than anything in the environment.

It sucks, I'm actually thinking I'd be better off deaf in that ear. :evil:

I've had it ever since I bought an iPod and starting listening to music through headphones... even after I stopped doing that (was worried that it would get progressively worse) I still have it. It's quite faint, and the only time I really notice it is when I go to bed at night when there is no other noise or when I wear headphones/earplugs. It's annoying for sure, although not as bad as the eye floaters I have (now those things are freaking annoying). At first I had a hard time adjusting to the ringing noise but I've kind of learned to tune it out. 

I've had it for around 7 months now since a random middle ear infection (the first ear infection of my life that I can remember) at the beginning of the year.

Naturally I've done a bunch of reading on it to try and find a way to find some relief, but everything I've seen sounds like it's all fairly individual... Some things work for some people, some don't. Everything seems to be hit or miss. Best bet is to actually get it looked at professionally by an ENT, which I'm also hoping to do here eventually myself.

One thing that I would maybe try is more fluids... Dehydration is something that can worsen it. So maybe it's the summer heat, or maybe you've been drinking too much booze. Certain medications seem to react poorly to it as well.

Light exercise does seem to help in my case... and by that I basically just mean walking. Serious workouts seem to make it worse, but a walk seems to bring it down for a while.

I've had it for as long as I can remember, but it only affects me in complete silence, so it's not really bothersome.

Not sure how many people know this but simply wearing ear plugs as hearing protection ISN'T enough. The soft spots right between your jaw and your ear lobe needs to be protected as well. So you should be wearing ear plugs AND ear muffs.

I'm already deaf in one ear so I try to protect the other as much as possible when I go to concerts. I do hate it when I leave a bar and my ear is ringing.Travo_basic

I don't know if it's the same thing, but I often (though not always) get this weird sound in my ears when it's really really quiet outside. It sounds like an oscillating sound from a sonar from a movie, just not as strong.

Just the odd moment with it now and then. Although the past 3 weeks it seems to last at least 10 mins whenever it happens.
