Story

(The Tennessean - Nashville) A bill that would direct Tennessee officials to essentially ignore the U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage could cost the state more than $8.5 billion, according to the bill's fiscal note.

That figure includes the federal funding the state receives for programs such as TennCare that could risk being yanked if the state goes against the federal court's order.

TennCare receives about $6.5 billion in federal funding, and the Department of Human Services receives more than $2 billion for its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families aid programs, according to the fiscal note.

"The provisions of the bill could jeopardize federal funding if it is determined the state is noncompliant with federal law," the fiscal note reads.

Nothing clouds reason quite like religion, now with 20% more hate at the same great low price.

It's money well spent if it puts the dirty thrill back into anonymous public restroom sex.

We have destroyed an entire generations enjoyment of sex with all this tolerance. You think it's fun to have sex with a guy in the stall of the courthouse lavatory then run off to pass anti gay legislation and talk about how butch you are anymore? Of course not.

That's how a good fiscal conservative is supposed to act.

While I personally don't care about the whole Same-Sex marriage crap issues and I do support those who are into Same-Sex but seeing Tennessee spending billions of dollars will bring our nation's into even more debt but in another way, I like it just so I can see how much our economy can take a hit. Come on U.S, let's bring our mother of God nation down.

The Bible says to help the poor and needy, even immigrants and refugees, and not to cast the first stone.

But lol no, lets ban the gays, spend money on banning gays, and stop welfare because lol at poor people.

@drunk_pi:Yeah, this week has been really disheartening for me on a state-level-and-down Republican governance level. Frankly, between me hearing the news about Florida ditching surgery standards and Flint Michigan's water fiasco, this kind of thing barely registers.

Some of this stuff is getting really, really sad.

Republicans don't like big government.

Tennessee Republicans dependent on government money.

Tennessee Republicans don't like homosexuals

Decide to say "Hey we don't want your money or your gays!"

Tennessee Republicans supported by poor white Republican voters who are even more dependent on the federal government than the politicians.

...and they all blame Obama and liberals.

I'd feel bad for them, if only they literally did not ask for their lot in life to be more difficult.

Republicans need to learn from the past and get in touch with their roots; I'd never thought I'd say this, but I would kill for the Republican party of the 1980s and early '90s, just as insurance in case Democrats lose. What is going on now is borderline treason, and dumb.

How many times are we going to be screwed over by the Republicans? I mean, when a democrat screws you over, its like "Oh no, they took our guns" or "Oh no, I have to pay an extra 0.05% in taxes this year". When a Republican screws you over, its like "Oh no, they poisoned our water and killed our kids and gave us cancer" or "Oh no, they gave me a 0.05% discount in taxes but I had to pay 10,000 in medical expenses as a result"

There are a lot out here in California, surprisingly. Just travel to the central valley; Modesto, Fresno, Tracy, Merced, and so on. It's a huge culture clash when I go visit my friends that live there, as I am a godless liberal hippy-spawn and I am used to socializing with the same in the Bay Area, but then I go out there to a region that feeds the entire country and who's livelihood is dependent on public programs and money, and it's "Screw Pelosi" this and "Thanks Obama" that.

Believe me, they are serious, and it's why I never laugh too hard when they say some of the things they say.

The Supreme court has ruled Gay Marriage is a matter for the States to decide (DOMA Ruling), then ruled it is legal when the case was brought by a gay couple from Ohio. There have been no laws written one way or another concerning Gay Marriage.

Technically the bible also says give to Caesar what is Caesar's. Not that I'm applauding this waste of money. I don't really care what others do with their lives as long as they don't hurt anyone else in the process.

You mean in order to thumb their nose at gays having federally protected right they get to starve the poor and the hungry? That's a Republican wet dream.

It's amazing just how much other people's personal lives matter to some people. That they would go that far. Quite ridiculous.

That's the bent of my thoughts, without any of the sarcasm unfortunately. Those that did this sadly probably do regard it as a win win. Tennessee is one of those states where the fire department will stand around watching your house burn if you didn't pay a $75 fee to your fire department because who needs public safety, private safety is clearly the moral way to go.
