And before I start no I am not a religious person trying to disprove atheists as I myself am one but the topic is about God. So now, hypothetically if God did exist and he made himself apparent to us all would you throw away all your previous convictions and worship him, because when I asked a friend this he said definitely which shocked me because I don't think I could. I mean I could acknowledge he was real because I base my opinion on what I see, but I still could not worship him, I believe no being be it human or God deserves any type of worship plus from what I've heard about God he preaches love and forgiveness but if you cross him oh boy you'd better watch out.

So what would you do?

If this happened I would simply acknowledge that he is real, but I still wouldn't worship him. My life is my own, not his.

Depends on what you mean by "god". The Christian god?

And I do reject the definition of "worshiping" many people abide by and I wouldn't worship him like that.

Yes, if it were proven and he also showed himself I would believe. Kind of like Santa.

I am an atheist due to a lack of evidence. If I were to find evidence that proved the existence of God, not requiring faith, then of course I would worship him/her/it. Most people who are misinformed about atheism tend to think that most atheists are convinced there is no God and like theists, are unwilling to accept the possibility. For the most part, this is untrue. Plenty of atheists, given the proper evidence, would be the first to convert to whichever religion becomes "right." It is the inherent quality of having an objective, rational and scientific outlook.

For me, I abandoned worship before belief, more or less due to the problem of evil. So the existence of God would not be sufficient to make me worship Him.

Yep the christian God.

I don't think the Christian god is a plausible image of a god, and therefore I don't think such a god would appear. I think we will mostly be surprised (all religions) when a time like that comes (if it comes at all), meaning we will all be proven to a certain extend wrong of what we believe to be a god.

But that's just my opinion.

My position is more inclined towards the "any" deities existence, not just the Judeo-Christian God. If an all-powerful being proves to me that it exists and will punish me eternally (or some way) if I don't comply and worship, you'd bet I'd first in line at the altar. How can one not comply when starring down the barrel of an objectively observable "loaded gun?"

The only reason I'm atheistic is because there is no proof at all in favor of the existance of a deity. If God came down from the heavens and said, "O hai thar" then that would be sufficient proof to me that he is real and requires ass-kissing.

I can understand and acknowledge that, though my rejection (which happened when I was in grade school) occurred at a time that I still believed God existed but found I couldn't bring myself to find Him just. Impractical as it might have been, it was a principled rejection of worship, regardless of the personal consequences.

If God appeared in front of everybody and proved his existence, I would not worship him. After mankind has spent so long in doubt, I would disrespect him for choosing now of all times to prove himself. I hate people like that, human or deity.

I won't worship a god(s), I will admit to one(or many) existing, but I won't worship. This is more of a stand of principles, I don't think anything should be worshiped, respect yes, but not worshiped.

If God made himself known, I would aknowledge His existence, and I would respect Him for what He is. I would not worship him, however, because I see no reason to worship anyone or anything out of fear.

No. Do people have any idea what worship means? Do people have any idea what working for someone means? Obviously not. This god you speak of wants you to be his slave. I rather die. Come smite me... My knees will never be buried in the dirt.

I think God and I would have to sit down, have a facial, do our nails, watch some chick flicks in our bath robes and have a D&M before I went ahead and worshipped Him. He'd really have to explain His motives and help me, as a mere mortal, understand why He'd do thing the way He did. Just because he's more powerful than me, doesn't mean he has to be worshipped. Furthermore, it would depend on what he asked from me. Which religion has worshipping down right? What if he said "no religion is right; nor are they wrong" (i.e. just worshiping Him in general makes Him happy. Could I not then worship Him in my own way, just by thanking Him etc

It'd come down to that. I'm not suddenly going to gush over Him and become a priest just because he knocks on my door, says hai, and tries to sell something I'm not buying. He'd realy have to convince me.

Science can't prove everything.

For everything we can't prove, until we find out it's the doing of God. But even then, there are some things we will never find out.

That's because God is real.

Not only do you perform the God of the Gaps logical fallacy, but you support it as well? That's not a very compelling arguement. :|

when faced with the possibility of spending an eternity with god or satan, id pick god. god may have a short temper, but that satan seems like an all around ****. plus i hear god lives in a pretty sweet neighborhood while satan...well ill just say that i prefer air conditioning. so yeah, id worship god if he did something crazy like revealing himself.

I'd acknowledge his existance but that doesn't mean I'd worship him. If he had a long chat with me and disproved all of my concerns then maybe.
