Seriously, I see so much hate on hip hop/rap music on these boards, and I just want to know the reasoning behind a lot of this hatred. Rap is regarded as the Micheal Bay of music... and I don't understand why. What's wrong with this song, for instance?

The problem is, the song you posted is not mainstream. Most people only hate mainstream rap like me. I hate it because it gets repetitive. How much can you lie about stuff like drugs, sex, and money before people stop listening? It seems a lot. And i also hate lil waynes voice. Most fans of rappers like lil wayne and them dont even consider fort minor a rap project (combination of shinoda and styles of beyond) Well atleast the people I talk to.

I don't like the sound style of hip hop and rap, simple as that, just like i don't like country music or the metal that is just people screaming the entire song, it just doesn't appeal to me.

Yeah I understand this. Mainstream rap can sometimes be downright terrible. But I don't think it's fair to judge an entire genre by just the mainstream crap. You could say the same about some forms of rock music as well.

It is not fair, but unfortunately thats what it has come to. Do you see people driving down the street blaring fort minor? Nope just rappers like 50 cent and it creates an overall hate for the genre before they even hear the rest of the genre.

I don't hate hip-hop. I hate the message.

This is a great example of my earlier point, if you listen to real rap things that that are not even said.

I don't have a problem with the genre itself, it just doesn't appeal to me. I don't like country, reggae, metal bands that involve screaming, growling and banging guitars, and pop music for the same reason: none of it appeals to me.

Not only that, but I really can't relate to rap/hip hop music like most people can. I relate to artists like Radiohead and Green Day way more than I can relate to someone like 50 Cent or 2Pac or whatever; I've never lived the "thug" life so I really don't understand it well.

Does it make it bad? Of course not. It's just never been my thing.

The only 2 rappers i see even close to cleaning up mainstream rap are Wale and J. Cole but even they do not have enough exposure to the rap community. It might not ever happen.

Because 90% of songs amount to this: "I'm [insert adjective] like [insert object/person famous for aforementioned adjective] I got [insert object] like I'm [insert person famous for possession of many of aforementioned object] I [insert verb] you can call me [insert person famous for doing aforementioned verb]"

People like to look down on others, but a lot of times, the people who do that don't realize that most of the music they listen to isn't all that deep and complex either.

Dont really like it, cuz of the way alot of the artists act, and most raps song sound the same (its true, dont deny it). And its hard to find real hiphop anymore outthere. most of the stuff is just studio hiphop (the stuff you see in popular culture) and its not the actual real stuff spawned from the hiphop culture.

Bassicly, theres the hiphop all the top 40 artists. Thats giveas the bad message people think of.

Then there is real Hiphop that gives messages of freedom, expression and stuff, that spawned from the original hiphop culture. But most people dont look at that...

I used to hate hip hop and rap, but that was before I found out that the underground stuff sounds COMPLETELY different from the mainstream crap. Good hip hop is music. Bad hip hop (which is kind of hip hop most people hear) is just some guy talking over an extremely repetitive, simplistic beat.

from a non- hip-hopers point of view, we always think that the main motive of hip-hop is to get chicks, booty shaking, trying so hard to get the coolness title and vulgar language... correct me if i'm wrong

I don't hate the genre, I just hate most of its popular artists. It's just like metal. Just because I can't stand Devil Wears Prada or Bring Me the Horizon doesn't mean I can't enjoy Death and Edge of Sanity

That said, my appeal to rap is kind of limited. I don't understand why you would limit vocals to monotony as a rule when you can do so much more musically with varied pitches.

Prolly cause there are too many really horrible pop oriented rappersusing autotune and still making millions. But hey, if people are dumb enough to pay for it then it aint gonna go away. And yes, I know there are still some good artists out there who aren't like that.

Because I hate the urban and ghetto community and messages it sends. Oddly enough the only rappers I can stand listening to is Ice Cube and Bun-B.

Besides them I hate absolutely everything about rap and hip-hop. I see little artistic merit in it. Music is an art so I'm entitled to my own opinion. I hate auto-tune when its used in hip-hop/pop and how everything has the same, exact bass beat in rap.

Oh and another thing, 99% can't sing. Ties in with my auto-tune rant. They try to do some kind of MJ or high-pitch stuff when they can't. That or they stay monotone throughout the whole song.

Auto-tune is being used more and more in other genres as well.

When its used in hip-hop and pop it has a really nasty "electronic" sound to it. For a specific verse that breaks away from the song is fine, but when every damn song has it going on throughout the whole duration...
