You need to be able to run more than 20 minutes I use to be like you but I ran for 20 minutes every day until my body got use to it and know I can run much longer than 20 minutes.

Hate to be the person to nit-pick but how far do you run in cross country, and after the 20 mins was this like close to sprinting, jogging, fast paced jog?. Also did you do the 20 mins on the road or in cross country cause imo cross country is much harder as you have to be more aware of the surrondings and the rocky trials kill me.

How old are you? Its not really about the amount of time you can run straight, but more so how much distance you can cover in a certain amount of time...

Hey kid you should do it. I can run for 50 minutes straight. If you put forth effort and practice running ever day you'll be good at it.

Practice makes perfects.:D

Hmm. You should be fine in it. I run a lot, not for any purpose or anything. But, I just run until I'm about to collapse (Full speed) and that seems to work! I'm sure it doesn't do wonders for my body but, still.

I think that a pretty good mile run is supposed to be 5-6 minutes but thats for an older age group so i would say if you keep it up you should be good, and i would reccomend doing the 1500 if you do track. JUst when you do runs something that i read in a magazine one time that has been working for me to bring your speed up is to set like10-20 second interviel were you speed up a bit then go back to normal pace, and after a while make this intervil longer and try and go faster. I did it when training for the half marathon.

Don't get discouraged. I ran track and cross country for 2 years. When I started the sport they were already 2 weeks in and I had no summer training, plus I also went in there weighing 230 pounds. Obviously I was the slowest one on the team, but my team mates supported me as well did my coaches. My coaches had a lot of patience for me.

You will get mad shin splints just like I did and you will want to quit but you have to stick to it. I actually got into the sport by accident. I was going to join wrestling but I figured I needed some conditioning. Come wrestling season I quit after the first 2 weeks, and I ran track because I got kicked out of shotput so I decided to go back to running.

Message me if you want some more advice when it comes to running.

Sorry for the double post but two more pieces of advice that worked for me is to try and run with people that are faster then you, you may be a bit embarresed if you do baddly but this will only make you want to do better as you will try harder to keep up, also it helps you know what good competion is like. Also warm-up runs are your friend go for like a nice slow jog for like a minute then do some streches so you don't destroy your muscles epsically during winter .

I wana join Cross Country and the longest I could run without my legs feeling like they are on fire is 20 min at a good pace, am i ready? I dont know how long i should be able to run, timpaniman10
Well the high school cross country team ran for 30-1 hour usually, around 10 miles total i believe was an average practice. If after 20 min you are in agony you need to do more conditioning but if you have a good pace you shuold get on the team unless your like in some university or something. Most colleges will let you join as long as your gpa is good and your full time student so you can just join for getting in shape.

1. Take it slow. If 20 mins is all you can run, then shoot for 15-20 mins every day.

2. Build your way up to 50 mins. or whatever your goal is.

3. Not sure how they judge it in competition, but try to increase the distance you can run in 15-20 mins. Then do it faster and longer.

But A #1 right now is to take it slow so you do not burn out and quit.

Im sorry unless i am misunderstanding this i highly doubt your highschool team did 10 miles in 30-1hour

Yes, practice, practice, practice.
And carb up (pastas, breads) the night before a good run, you'll need the energy.

I was captain of my Cross Country team back in High School, and if you want to be good your gonna have to be able to run for way more than 20 minutes.
