Power metal is my thing.... I hate death metal.Hmm well i really like melodic death metal. So i'll go with death.
I barely have any black metal in my collection.

theres far more interesting black metal bands than death. while the underground is littered with death metal i generally like the black metal stuff better.TempleGoat
It depends on where you live I guess but I think black metal is much more underground than death metal. This is probably because black metal encourages bad sound quality which gives everyone a shot.
Whatever Staind and Puddle of Mudd is, that's the metal I like, I believe it's called REAL metal. Pretty much anything overseen by Fred Durst is the definition of metal. Large_Soda
i hope you're joking. if not, i'm afraid you fail at life.

Anything with Fred Durst and REAL metal is definitely a joke.
I'd say Death. I hardly listen to black metal except for Burzum, Wolves in the Throne Room, and a few others.

Remember that Puddle of Mudd song "She Hates Me"? What black or death metal song has conjured up such emotions as that? This girl clearly hates him.
Yes I am joking.
I like Opeth. I now open the floor for someone to tell me that they are not metal, or good, or edgy or something that typically happens in a music opinion thread.[QUOTE="TempleGoat"][QUOTE="Large_Soda"]Whatever Staind and Puddle of Mudd is, that's the metal I like, I believe it's called REAL metal. Death for sure, but more specifically melodic death. Can't stand crap like Cannibal Corpse and I haven't heard any black metal I have liked.Thechaninator

I really hope you don't call yourself a metal fan then....
How is that relevent if Opeth isn't metal (or good, or edgy.).
To answer what TC asked I'll go with black metal since its more atmospheric and expressional IMO.
But im more of a subgenre person for example i like:
-Symphonic Black Metal
-Symphonic Metal
-Epic Power Metal
-Folk/Viking Metal
-Melodic Death Metal (not too many good bands of this genre though)
-any many other subgenres of power metal, black metal, and folk metal

Uh... saying Opeth isn't metal proves you haven't listened to them...at all.

Opeth is definitely a metal band. Just because they delve into other genres doesn't negate that.

On top of that it is ridiculous to not at the very least respect the band for being very talented at their instruments, being extremely original, and being able to write 10 minutes songs that AREN'T repeptitive. I don't care if it isn't your type of music, but DO NOT disrespect that band.

:o i didn't know you hated Opeth. Opeth is progressive metal...which is still metal. if you don't like them cause they have allot of softer songs, listen to The Leper Affinity, and Ghost of Perdition.
anyways, i perfer Death; mostly brutal/technical, and melodic, i have nothing against BM though, it's just not realymy cup of tea, although i stil listen to it (Mayhem, Immortal, 1349, Enslaved, and some Bathory, and Mercyful Fate)
Trash!! BTW whats black metal? african-american metal?G-Man88
vocals are usually high pitched shrieks/growls, guitars, and drums are either really fast, or slower to give an un-easy, creapy feeling, Satanic lyics, and imigery is almost always a part of it (although sometimes lyrical themes are based around Norse Mythology). some bands are Mayhem, Burzum, Immortal, Darkthrone, Satyricon, 1349, and Dimmu Borgir
reguar metal is the best, i like the other stuff, but metal is itself is great. :)Putzwapputzen
i've never really been a big fan of just regulat Heavy Metal. the closest thing to "traditional" metal that i listen to is Power metal (although i do listen to some regular metal though)

I'm really just kidding. Opeth is metal and all of that. Never was a fan though. I found that a lot of fans of Opeth are also fans of Slipknot and In Flames so it's always been a joke among my friends.

What's Black Metal? :?Quadrifoglio
I believe it is a style of metal that uses high pitched vocals and heavily distorted instruments....like Dragonforce....I think....don't flame me

You and your friends seem like snobs. But it's the same way I am with movies so I can't fault you for it, but from the outside looking in on your perspective it's a little unsettling. I guess that's what I do to other people.
