well where are you flying out of?

When I flew there last year from Vancouver to Tokyo the actual flight time was about 10ish hours and the airline was Air Canada.

I've flown with British Airways and Air France. Air France is much cheaper but...god it was awful. 13 hours of awful. You're looking at around maybe 400-1,000 GBP depending on when, from London.

Let's see. Continental, Japan Air, Delta(?), Cathay Pacific. I spent a total of maybe close to two years if I add up all the visits. Although I'm not Japanese, I was born there. So, it's natural for me to have a fascination with the place.

I have access to all the US bases there which meant I can save a ton of money by staying with friends or at billeting. At Tokyo, I stay at the Haneda Excel all the time for my overnights because it's the most convenient plus the rates aren't too bad (~US$200/night). The hotel also has good soundproofing because I can't hear any of these inside my room:

Edit:

The longest flight I took was from Amsterdam to Atlanta, to Seattle, and finally to Tokyo. I didn't sleep for a few days because of jet lag.

How does that stop weeaboos from entering the thread?

I would assume most westerners who want to visit Japan are weeaboos who get surprised when they get there.

Japanese culture is very strange to me. Especially how they sexualise women. Its almost the polar opposite of Western culture.

It's more than that... and I love that it is. Because it upsets the dreams of weeaboos, and I hate weeaboos.

Hm i can't explain it but they see women more attractive the younger they are, thats you'll regularly see Japanese girls in school uniforms. If that makes sense. We are opposite, we find women who look older or more adult attractive.

Also the fact that they have used girls underwear vending machines is very disturbing.

Oh, that part. Out mingling with the locals, I didn't see that part about older women wearing school uniforms. In fact, most girls wearing uniforms were actually HS students. Then again, I spent most of my time up north (Lake Towada area) where the countryside is beautiful and the ramen is awesome (plus winters get pretty harsh). They're probably more conservative up north than say, in Tokyo.

But, yeah. I see what you mean.

Well the times I went to Japan were all on MAC flights, that is airlines (or freight carriers with passenger jets, go Flying Tigers) contracted by the Military Airlift Command, to fly military personnel overseas. The first time I was a kid and lived there for 3 years. The second time, I was stationed on Okinawa for 2 years. I am sure things have changed some since I have been there. I know that the base housing we lived in outside of Tokyo is no longer there.

Exactly, I would go just to see how big a change there has been in the past 40 years, especially around the area I used to live.

I went there awhile back and stayed for a few months. I took a US navy cruiser to the waters of Okinawa, and from there an amphibious lander onto the beach itself. Cost us a lot of good men...
