I found this in Wikipedia.
"...determined that the net effect of carbonated soft drinks on calcium retention was negligible. He concluded that is likely that colas prominence in observational studies is due to their prominence in the marketplace, and that the real issue is that people who drink a lot of soft drinks also tend to have an overall diet that is low in calcium."

Yeah, it's what you're NOT eating and drinking as a result of consuming that soda. If you aren't drinking milk and water, and soda fills you up and prevents you from eating better stuff it is a problem.
to be honest, if you lift heavy weights you can almost eat whatever you want without much issue. if you aren't a power lifter however, soda isn't going to destroy you, but as people have stated soda is empty calories, and furthermore you should try not to get many calories from liquid anyhow. they are the least filling and the primary function of drinking should always be hydration.
a soda or two a week won't kill you, but drink one everyday and you will have to work that much harder to get the results you want.
I don't think your muscles will absorb the soda when you drink it, it just goes straight to your stomach, maybe thats why you feel fat.
