I read an article on MSN Sports and saw that the owner was saying that it would be highly unlikely that Joe Torre would continue to be the Yankees manager if they did not win the AL Championship and make it to the World Series. What do you guys think of this?

As a Red Sox fan I would hate to see this happen. Joe Torre looks like he is a really good manager, and in my opinion, he is as much a part of the Red Sox - Yankees rivalry as any of the players are, so I think it would suck to lose him as our rival manager.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: Yes, I know he might have it "easier" because of his team's huge payroll... but he did lead them to 4 World Series championships in his first 5 years as manager, so that must count for something.

You're not much of a Sox fan (see: bandwagon) if you dont want Torre to leave because he's a 'good manager'. Next...

He probably will be fired if they lose tonight, and it's not looking good with Clemens out already. But I don't think he should necessarily, they did make the playoffs after all.

yea he managed to lose with a team of all stars...their budget is twice a normal MLB...seriosuly baseball should put SOME KIND OF CAP IN EFFECT....say 150 MIL....and most teams would never touch that ever...but the yanks would be forced to sell half their squad of overpaid sellouts

for the money that team pays out, there should always be the expectation to get past the first round of the playoffs...

He's just a scapegoat. It's not his fault some guys can't get hits, or the pitchers are giving up runs left and right.

Um...have you seem the caliber of players he's managing? If he can't win with those players, there's a problem.

He's obviously not helping, but the Yankees have only scored what, 4 or 5 runs so far this series? Everyone should be blamed.

True, even Jeter is having a rough series, which is very rare for him in October. You have to give credit to the Indians pitching though, Carmona was incredible the other night.

you wouldn't be happy having Joe Torre managing the Red Sox? Despite not winning the World Series this year they have made the postseason the last 12 years with him leading the way. That's success. 4 World series rings. The man knows how to win.

And calling someone a bandwagon hopper beacuse they respect an opposing a manager is ludicrous.

P.S. i'm a Red Sox fan. always have been, always will be.

Then what did you mean by the bandwagon comment then?

And if your team didn't have a manager you would not want Joe Torre managing your team? Why not?

Say whatever you want, but I've liked the Red Sox ever since I was 10. I went to Fenway all the time, even though I lived in Canada. Thanks for jumping to conclusions though! Nice to meet you too!

What I was saying was that it's a ridiculous comment to say he doesnt want Torre fired because he's a good manager and is a part of the rivalry. That's just garbage. Yankees just took the lead btw :/

He should have retired 2 years ago, but know he is just a shadow of his former self. Although I would enjoy seeing him get dropped from the line-up because he betrayed my beloved Astros:evil:.

I really don't think it's his fault. The Yankees just seem to choke lately. Is it his fault if his overly-paid athletes cannot perform when it counts? I don't think so. I think Torre has done well with the Yankees, and yes, he has a huge budget to work with, but I just don't think he should be replaced based on his team's performance.

We'll see how this game ends up... right now it's the top of the 9th and the Yankees are leading 8 - 4. If Rivera cannot keep that lead then the Yankees don't deserve to win anyways :P.

the yankees aren't a good team anymore, they are just a team of good players...they will never win like that
