I'm goign to start jogging regularly today. Never done it before. Anything I should keep in mind? I think I'll start easy with a few laps in the woods which would be like 2 kilometers (1,4 miles?).

Don't forget a short warm up jog and stretching, then stretching after.  That said, don't push too hard too quickly.

expect it to be really hard at first. I have done a ton of running but nothing is quite so hard as starting out. my analogy for it is that starting running is like knocking over a brick wall by running into it over and over, but after you knock it down, its never quite as hard to get through it

I do power walking. Less likely to get stress fractures that way.

I do about 5 miles a day.

EDIT: But if you do that, do take it easy on the first try.

First off, make sure you have a good pair of running shoes with some ankle support and good padding in the soles. Other than that, just stick with it. You aren't going to be Flash Gordon your first time out, but if you work really hard, you could see some solid results in just a few weeks.

No hate or anything, but I think you're thinking of The Flash.  Flash Gordon was a space ship kind of guy.

I don't really enjoy running myself.  It's far too abrasive.  I love me some mountain biking though.

I love jogging, so much fun. Bring a bottle of water, maybe a music player? Remember to keep a nice pace, don't run, just keep a rhythm going. In a very short time you should see your health improving, if anything, just a general better energy.

The music actually sets a cadence for me.  That's why I bring it along

I ran about 3 km. About 2 km cycling to the woods and 2 back. I actually ran more like 2 X 1,5 km with a drinking pause in between. And I took a break walking twice. Is it better to run slower and not take walking breaks?
