Yeah.... his son went through his manuscripts and managed to put the peices together to create a story his dad was working on

Lol its going to be like Battle Royale 2 again. A son doing his dads work and I guess won't be much of the goodness without the dad. :)

The Hobbit never happened, so I doubt this will be made into a movie.

The Hobbit still could happen, only Peter Jackson won't be directing it, and everyone wants him to.  The only option is for another studio to get the rights to Tolkien's books.  And personally, I don't want to see this as a movie.  It's a history of dwarves, just like the Silmarillion was a history of elves.  Which ends up being kind of boring as a film.

Besides, there's a Conan the Barbarian movie coming out next year.

He has many books other than the LOTR's and they never turned into movies.
