Today there was a tornado or two that touched down in Western NY. A town less than 8 miles away from my house was destroyed. I have no proof, but it may make then news by tomorrow? Scary thought since NY is not known for that kind of weather activity. Thankfully Im not home, the power has been out for hours :P

Wow, that's like a hurricane hitting Canada  Well I don't think that's possible... but how rare is a tornado in New York?

I'm literally scared for out fate. Not only that of N.Y,, but that of the entire nation. And yet, people still deny Global Warming is taking place.

InEMplease

Its funny how everything is proof of global warming. If it proves everything, it proves nothing. Or I guess in this case, if everything proves it, it cannot be proven.

Fine and dandy. Let's survey our conditions over the next couple of years. :)

I never said it wasn't true, I actually believe that the world is getting warmer, but saying that a tornado is proof of it? Come on

And even if it is true, there is nothing anyone can do about it, because we aren't even causing it. And if we were, there would still be nothing we could do about it,

Yeah, are they at all common?

I live in Canada, about a days drive north from New York...
Would the closer to the ocean, make the chance of a tornado less? (i.e., a tornado might hit more inland, but not right on the waterfront, say in New York City?)

Has there ever been a tornado in N.Y.? If we're not causing it, what is? If there's nothing we can do about it, than why have we let it progress this far?

Natural cycles of the earth are. We're exiting an ice age and entering a more tropical era. And how does it make since that if we've let it progress far enough to possible do damage to us, we are capable of stopping it? And it probably won't even damage us that terribly much anyway.

I wouldn't know to be honest. I know a tornado occurs when warmer and cooler air mixes or something, I don't know if bodies of water effect that... But then again I think tornadoes can still form over water.

there was a town hit way harder than Mayville, but its just not as popular and well known. Its called Randolph and from what I understand it was destroyed. The local car dealer ship now has no cars and over a hundred head of cattle were killed or are missing. But that's just hear say, the source is reliable to me but probably means nothing to the rest of you lol.

You babies dramatize everything, stop being such fear mongers.

2012 will not happen, 9/11 was caused by a bunch of pissed off muslims with box cutters and aliens are not coming to visit us because they searched for intelligent life on this planet and found none. =/

Go take your ignorance somewhere else.

Atleast you're hoping for the best.

Natural cycles aside, this is relatively unexpected The Ice Age ended thousands of years ago. Also as you have said, we are no longer capable of stopping it. However, way may have had the opportunity to prevent it at some point in the past, but obiously, neglected to do so.

See, but thats just not true. First of all, we don't even know what the temperatures were more then 200 years ago, and second of all there have been all kinds of ups and downs in climate. Ever heard of the mini ice age? Did you even know that if the guesses for what temperatures were 500 years ago were are right, that we're only now hitting what the average temperature was before the mini ice age?
