I'm talking about this, because as it seems people tend to thing that if a guy is silent, and doesn't walk around like he's an everyman, that for some reason he isn't confident in himself. Does confidence have to = the best cars, clothes, homes or what ever status symbol you can find? Does being a loud moth show boater as a man mean that you're confident? Can the silent guy whos focused on his work, or getting business done be confident?

False. Confidence and egotism are opposite ends of the same feeling.

It's not synonymous, but it's still a fair guess.

You should change the title to: "True or False: Confidence is not synonymous with Egotism". Egotistical is an adjective, not a noun.

Egos are a sub-category of confident. You can be confident without having a massive ego, but I don't see how you can have an ego without being confident.

I am with you, I think it is just false perception. I really do not even see how making more money in the end makes you better. Though people who make more money tend to be people who have influence over others. I got socks and under, good jeans, for like 21 dollars. While someone would a more fancy version for three times the price. I think it is just materialism. In fact, I think all the costly items are kind of stupid. It is also the house thing, I do not see how having a bigger house makes you more important at all. I guess they are all just status symbols, but have no real value. To me though, the lower cost stuff is actually better, looks more natural, like when I go clothe shopping, I go for the low cost stuff because they tend to look more natural. The higher cost stuff just has more flashy elements?

isn't egotism pretty much over-confidence?

I don't see how confidence would mean being those type of guys who beat their chest and is an everyman, while being that type of guy you'd commonly find in a frat(not saying that you you will always find them in a frat, not all frat guys are the stereotypical 'bro' type). I've seen gay guys with confidence, and what I'm trying to pin-point is this, do you have the a-hole type of guy who thinks he's better than all to be confident? I don't think so, like I said, I've even seen some feminine guys be confident in themselves, they don't portray the grandeur, macho, or/and dominant type that has to toot his own horn 24/7.

Confidence comes in more than one package, and no it's not only the huge ego that seems unreal in this world like "Wow is this guy serious?" Lets say... lets compare a Spike Speigle, or Goku type confidence to a Vageta or Cell type confidence, there is such a thing as a good ego that doesn't allow you to think you're every thing, and even if you think or know you're better than someone, can still warrant some kind of level ground where you don't have to enforce the "I'm better!" dominance over other people. If a leader is good enough, he doesn't have to dominate, because people may follow him regardless.

Should have phrased my question better, but since the word I wanted to use, started with a D and is not allowed on Gamespot, but not that much of a bad word, I chose egotistical as quick word, not thinking of what I did.

Just think of those Jersey Shore guys and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Putting on a huge ego can actually stem from insecurity.

Or change it to: "True or False: Confidence is synonymous with Egotism" to avoid people picking the wrong answer.

Exactly. Generally if you are confident in yourself you don't have to tell everyone about it.

Two people have ego problems:P

Now that I think about it, I know those people who have "ego's" versus people who are self confident. Egoistic people will shun you whenever they think they are better than you. Self confident people do not worry whether they are better than someone.

False. Confidence is one aspect of egotism. And both can be virtues if the self-image is justified.

NOTE: You might want to change either the topic title or the poll. The topic title asks one true or false question, but the poll asks its opposite.

Being confident means, "I can do it". Being egotistical means, "You don't stack up to me, you bunch of low-lifes". Big difference.

Confidence is inherently egotistic. Unfortunantly no one understands confidence or egotism, most equate it with bravado, or some other kind of unearned esteem. Confidence.. true, earned, egotistic pride is the highest level of self-esteem, it should be admired.

Cars, loud mouth, etc mean nothing.
