ARTICLE

Indians studying in American educational institutions should not be kicked out as the country needs smart people like them, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has said as he sought to set the record straight about his immigration policies.

"Whether we like that or not, they pay, et cetera, et cetera but we educate a lot of people, very smart people. We need those people in the country," Trump, 69, told Fox News in an interview when asked about his views on legal immigration.

"They cannot come into the country. You know, they go to Harvard, they are first in their class and they're from India they go back to India and they set up companies and they make a fortune and they employ lots of people and all of that," he said.

"Many people want to stay in this country and then want to do that. I think somebody that goes through years of college in this country we shouldn't kick them out the day they graduate, which we do," Trump said clarifying his position on certain aspect of H-1B visas.

  • Trump says Indian students are smart and they are top rankers in US varsities.
  • He says US-education Indians set up companies in India and they make a fortune.

He won't be president anyway so it's not like it matters.

Well, that's a point I would agree with him on. They do come to this country and do exceptionally well. They're smart, focused, and yeah, it would be a boon to our country if these folks decided (and were allowed) to stay here after getting their first class education and did their thing here instead of taking that intellectual horsepower back home.

So it begins... Trump's inevitable swing back toward the middle once he has secured the nomination by appealing to the extreme right. This is how big of an idiot Trump believe the American voting collective is, that we can't remember or just forget about the stuff he said during the GOP primaries. Then again, he IS the Republican frontrunner so maybe he is right.

So according to Trump, it's all good as long as your skin is the right color of brown and you aren't into that Allah business!

The jackass continues to prove how much of a racist piece of shit he is.

Goes against the face of all those who say Trump is anti-immigration. Only anti-ILLEGAL immigration.

It's normal, many indians are good in informatic. Trump wants strangers which bring money at the american society. And the mexicans are not important for him but indians yes.

@indzman: He has been saying this for months, just he finally specified a race as example. I guess some people can't comprehend legal immigration?

Have you seen the process in which people have to go through in order to have a slim chance of getting their green card? It's an absolutely absurd amount of time and stress. I'm not saying just open up our borders and not engage in oversight, but it's not like the needy are coming here illegally because it's easy. Hell, illegal immigration into America is a nightmare as well.

I dont expect Trump to or his supporters to use any nuance. Statements like "Those Indians are smart, Mexicans is dumb!" seem to be right at the level, in comparison to all the poorly lettered garbage Trump, his campaign, or his supporters, have been spewing for months now.

This is good news for some of my old friends who have gone there for higher education. Also, as an Indian, I believe generalising Indian students in the US as smart is a bit far fetched. A few guys I know who were average in academics during under graduation and lacking interest in the subject, did go to US for higher education, mainly for elevating their social status rather than to improve their knowledge and skills. Of course, I might be wrong as I formed an opinion from the people I observed. So, it may be an exception rather than the norm.

Doesn't it happen every election cycle though? Each side's candidates push as far as they can to their side to secure the nomination, then spring back to the middle. The thing is it's been doing way more harm to the GOP than the Democrats. Romney damaged his image pretty badly and ultimately couldn't do anything to win any ground back from the democrats, who gained terrain from the fact that Obama didn't have any competition.

This time, however, both Sanders and Clinton have been going further and further to the left (or rather, Clinton's been forced to the left because Sanders was always there). We have seen it happen on both sides this time, only once again the GOP candidate currently at the front has pushed so far to the right, (hell, crossing the border to fascism) that the rest of the country and middle-ground voters are thinking "uh... no".

So you see Trump, someone who has benefitted greatly on having jobs offshored to China, or illegal Mexican labor in the US, is going to crack down on the very labor force he benefits from? huh?
