He was definitely one of the greats, but he helped start the East-West Coast rivalry that caused real violence. I always found it ironic how he talked about how much New York sucked when he was born in Harlem and didn't move to California until he was 17.
By the way, I'm pretty sure at least half of the votes that say he completely sucks will be from people who don't even listen to rap to begin with.
HA! I remeber that sh*t, everybody talked about it in school. Those were the days. My whole schooled watch the Chappelle show, the day after a new episode would come out thats all everybody talked about.I wrote this song in '94

Biggie honestly seemed much better.
"And ask what your interests are, who you be with
Things to make you smile, what numbers to dial
You gon' be here for a while, I'm gon' go call my crew
You go call your crew
We can rendezvous at the bar around two"
i haven't seen tupac do something like that.
With Tupac, there's definitely a "Kurt Cobain Effect", meaning that people exaggerate how great an artist's music is, because the artist is dead. Reed_Bowie
Yep.
It's also the old school factor. Brainless sheeps keep thinking that because something is old it means it's better automatically.
Not to say old things aren't better than many new things, cause they are, but old does not equal better.
Plenty of artists in the genre more talented, both mainstream or otherwise... BUT, the messages he was able to get across, with his skill and fame, both on a song, and interviews are legendary and highly respectable.
So with that, he is, and always will be, in my top 5 artists, of any genre.

Aww, the little 12 year old thinks he knows about music. There there...
Don't even bother with him, you might as well be talking to a brick wall
