ANKARA, Turkey (AP) A Turkish court on Friday formally charged an internationally known pianist and composer with insulting Islamic religious values in comments he made on Twitter."Akyol said Say's tweets and retweets on social media cannot be considered as public remarks because only people who follow him can see them. In one tweet cited in the indictment, Say said: "What if there is raki (traditional anisette drink) in paradise but not in hell, while there is Chivas Regal (scotch) in hell and not in paradise? What will happen then? This is the most important question!!"" Say shouldn't be charged for asking such relevant questions. Can I be moved to a dimension with both Yeni Raki and single malts? xoxo " Islam forbids alcohol and many Islamists might consider such remarks unacceptable. In one of the pianist's retweets, one excerpt questioned whether paradise was a "brothel?" according to the indictment." Paradise without a drink isn't paradise, broski. Allah (smh) and The Prophet (AMBER) promised me better than that.MrPraline
Good thing he didn't insult Ataturk. That's be a much worse insult to Turks. Oh well. And people complain about how bad it is in the U.S.

its a bit of a paradox though , on the one hand Turkey is one of the most free countries in the Middle East (I know sometimes Turkey likes to pretend its in Europe , but lets be honest, its as much in the Middle East) , but they also have serious problems with things like this.Turkey has serious problems with free speech. IIRC, insulting Ataturk is considered a crime.

This boys and girls is a good demonstration of why separation of church and state is a pretty swell thing.Ace6301seperation of religion and state is not something that is exactly abound in this region , for both political and cultural reasons. ie, don't count on any country in this region to suddenly become liberal.

UK recently jailed that woman who rant racism on the tram for 5 month, do you think that's justified? I'm not saying it's not justified, but at the same time, was it that bad and what would they charge her with? offensive speech?

Hate speech laws tie in closely with the public disturbance laws. She is allowed to be racist and say racist things, but when you harass other people and cause a stir that could spark violence, then it is illegal.[QUOTE="MAZ85"]there is no alcoholic beverages in hell hippiesantaBut there is .... in most turkey restaurant (including moslem owner) for most secular turks..... beer is Halalwarm beer?

I'm aware of that. It's an unfortunate state of affairs.
[QUOTE="quebec946"]Never understood why they get offended so easily. Insecure, if they thought their religion was truly "the way" they would not care what others thought, they have to continually find reasons justify their beliefs.why are muslims so hardcore religious?
