[QUOTE="jfcundiff"]Shogun by TKO 2nd round. LockedgeJfcundiff, I'm happy that you're optimistic about Rua's abilities, and I'mma let you finish, but Lyoto Machida is one of the greatest fighter of all time! Of all time! Lyoto by 4th round tko.
Of course Shogun is gonna win.No doubt about it.
I don't know. I haven't seen a lot of either one. I started getting 'into it' at about just a little bit before Lesnar came in, and actuallyl started keeping up around UFC 97. I'm going with Shogun though. I can't wait for UFC 106!
Well someone's pumped after 103....
Anyway, hard not to go with Machida here. I'll say third round tko. Last I checked, Vegas had Machida as an 8 to 1 favourite I think. Shogun was at like +380 and Machida at -450. Something ludicrous like that.
As far as whether Shogun can beat Evans...that'd be a really close fight. On the feet, it's mostly a toss-up, though i think Shogun would have a slight edge simply due to his having more diverse striking. If Rashad uses his wrestling though, Shogun may have trouble..

Great fighter, but far from the GOAT. Lyoto has yet to even defend his belt. Too much hype for a guy who has yet to even do that.
Agree with cundiff. It's far, far too early to be calling Machida one of the greatest of all time. He just got his first title and two years ago, he was taking the likes of Sam Hoger, David Heath, and Vernon White to decisions. People only stopped hating him and calling him boring, what, six month ago? And now he's the greatest of all time?Paladin_KingI was with many calling him boring for quite sometime, but he was and still is so effective with the way he moves defensively. That also leaves one question unanswered about him and that is his chin, since no one has been able to get a clean shot on him. Maybe Shogun will be the one to finally test it.

I was just using anything as an excuse to do a kanye joke :P Lyoto's not the best of all time, I know that much. I do think he'll beat Shogun though. I haven't seen Shogun at a level where I'd consider him a serious threat...in a long time. Not since Pride. I know he had that injury, but even his last fight, he was sloppy and not even close to peak, and he'll need to be at peak to beat Lyoto IMHO.

I couldn't have said "Jfcundiff, I'm happy that you're optimistic about Rua's abilities, and I'mma let you finish, but Lyoto Machida is one of the above average light heavyweights in the UFC spanning all time! Spanning all time!" It just wouldn't flow :P Anywho, I've been a Lyoto nuthugger since he broke into the UFC, so I have a bit of a bias there, but I do believe his background in karate was the cause for his lack of aggression and finishes. He fought a lot of those fights like he was fighting for points. There were times where he could finish them but he didn't step up his gear and go out of position. Now he's learning that transition in his game, but all in all he's just a very interesting guy to watch. Not the greatest of all time. But better than Rashad, Forrest, and all those guys he's beaten...and I'd put him on par with Rampage and if Rua was 100% I'd have them around even right now.
I think Pride vets have had a tough time with the lack of kicks/knees to a grounded opponent, and the fact that there's a cage and not a ring.I'd say Machida, Shogun has not impressed yet in his 3 UFC fights. I'm not sure he is back in his PRIDE form yet.

He only won it in his last fight though.
And look who he beat to get it

Ye but the ability to kick a grounded opponent means once your down you are basically beat, their is no way you can get up with the cage plus the fighter doing the kicks can use the cage for balance. Like when Wes Sims stomped Frank Mir, it just showed how much trouble you are in.
I know this is not what you are saying I was just pointing it out :P
Also, I do think Rampage is doing ok in his move from PRIDE to UFC

I do get where you're going with that :) I understand and I do support to ban for the most part. It gves downed guys more of a chance to stand it up again. I think Rampage really transitioned well because his game(from what I recall with Pride) didn't revolve fully around striking like cro-cop/wandy/rua/etc., he had wrestling to fall back on(and wrestling in the cage>wrestling in the ring from what I understand). Nogueria had his BJJ to fall on as well.[QUOTE="ufcfan17"]

Machida round 1 KO, I think shogun canteven beat Evans
haha is this guy for real?
ppl thought I was crazy when I said forrest was going to beat shogun and the second forrest won ppl was looking stupid A healthy Shogun right now would wreck Forrest. Forrest is good, but a tad bit overrated. His biggest wins were over a so-so Shogun and a decision over Rampage that honestly could have went either way. Please Log In to post.
