Indeed a great list. I would've rolled over dead if Enslaved was forgotten, only because they're my favourite folk metal band.

Not really. Folk Metal bands tend to sing in their native langauge and sing about ... well their history. Sonata Arctica really doesn't do that.

Posting in this thread so I can check back on it later. good list of stuff. I only wish that some folk metal bands had a more folk-sound than a metal-sound. The first minute will be a traditional folk song, then the guitar/drums kick in and kinda ruin it. I like some of the bands listed though :D

I'd like to add Agalloch to the list, ther album The Mantle has a few songs that are absolutely fantastic. I think the song is "the lodge" that has a very folk-ish sound.

When I went to see Finntroll, instead of a mosh pit, we had a polka dance circle.

Some folk earth songs are definatly more folk than metal. I am listening to their new album right now, its pretty good.

:o i command you to listen to Ensiferum...NAO!!!

i don't know if Amon Amarth should be on the list though...sure they're awesome, and yes they are viking metal, but they don't have any folk elements. they are mostly melodeath.

Well I put them under honorable mentions. I figure their awesome vikingness makes up for lack of folk. When I saw them live Johan drank mead from a horn. That's folk enough for me

I didn't feel like making a new thread, but pretty much my favourite folk metal band, Eluveitie, released a new music video off of their soon to be released album Slania. Inis Mona. Also you can stream the cd off of their myspace page http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=55881276

:O you can stream the whole CD! Eluveitie are my co-favorite band with Bad Religion. (Weird choice I know, but Punk and Folk Metal are my 2 areas.)

I don't wanna listen until I get the CD though, but I may as well.

Anyway, here's a couple

Waylander, Mael Mordha (sort of), Thyrfing. Apologies if they are on the list.
