Tell us about books you think were underrated or good books that many people haven't read. Thanks to Foxhound_Fpx for providing the idea for the topic.

A book I'm reading right now is Let Me In. Also known as Let the Right One In. This book has great character development and interesting scenes. A book that makes you sympathise with a creepy pedophile is a great example of good writing.

(Thanks to Film Guy whose constant phraise for the movie got me to read this.)

The Shannara series has always been overshadowed by The Lord of the Rings, but it is much better, in my opinion

"Heart of Darkness" Back then when it was written, it was a fantastic book and praised upon....But now, if it wasn't for some high school classes (which is extremely ironic) most people would have never cared for the book. It's so epic, no book has ever got me thinking so much since 1984 or Watchmen

Good selection. I'll nominate Oryx & Crake, a book that even goes relatively unheard of here in Canada(considering it's written by a Canadian). Amazing book. Incredibly well written, and one of the better examples of having a near-perfect fusion of message and story. I rarely ever see Gravity's Rainbow in people's "top books" or "book I'm reading" lists. That should be better known. "House of Leaves" is another terrific readthat goes somewhat unnoticed. And finally, while Haruki murakami is pretty well-known, I'll give a shout out to The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles, because it's a fascinating read, and I don't think I've seen anyone here mention it in a few years.

Just about anything by Jack Kerouac. On the Road, especially. That book should be required reading for any adult.

It took modern fiction and turned it on its head.

I've read a lot of his books. I'm scared of getting that just because I can't then write off what I'm reading as 'oh, yeah, just some short stories', you know?

I've read it. I've read lots of Stephen King but this is the only book that's ever creeped me out. Great Book.

it took me a year and a half to read XD I kept having to start over so I could take it all in while keeping track of it. Awesome book though, even if it's a peculiar, fairly difficult read. :D

My favorite book is Deadhouse Gates. Its part 2 in a series, but it could stand alone as its own book. The entire thing is so incredibly epic, and all of the characters are so real its fantastic. Also, messages about human nature and stuff. But mainly sheer epic storytelling.
