We all know there are good movies and bad movies. We also know that people's tastes differ. Did you ever watch a movie that critics say it's terrible and thought: "Hey, this isn't that bad"? It happened to me with Kevin Costner's 'The Postman': everyone says it's awful (10% on rottentomatoes), but I really liked it. I also liked Uwe Boll's 'Postal', though all the world seemed to hate it (and believe me, I hated every minute of all the other movies by Boll).

Can you name one or more movies you consider underrated?

Big Fish is one of my favorite movies, the critics loved it, but the audience didn't :( Children of Men was also very good. Another film I find heavily underrated is 'Kikujiro', by Takeshi Kitano. I love that movie, but apparently not many others do.

Requiem For A Dream.friutpunch

Easily one of the most overrated movies. I enjoyed it, but it is far from the masterpiece it is claimed to be.

Brick is underrated simply due to it being not very well known I think. I tend to think Boondock Saints is underrated.

Lost Highway is very underrated.

I wish he was in more films, also I was gonna mention Let the right one in but then I realized this thread is about films the critics hate and from what I know the critics love that one:P

You should see The Fall, its on DVD and you will either love it or hate it. Tideland is also one to check out since you liked Let the right one in so much like I did:D

Imaginarium of doctor parnassus could be great, Terry Gilliam is one of my favorite directors and he hasnt been dissappointing so far. I even kinda liked Brothers Grimm. Tideland is another love it or hate it film, one thing you will notice about it is the acting by the main girl Jodelle Ferland, she is incredible. Best child actor performance of the decade so far next to the girl in Let The Right One in. I think her name is Lina something.

Yeh the Brother's Grimm was an entertaining movie. My favorite Terry Gilliam movie is probably Twelve Monkey's. Yup, Lina Leandersson. I thought Thomas Turgoose in This is England had a pretty amazing child performance as well. I really like Shane Meadow's movies...

I liked it, first one was a great character study, second was great how everything was interrelated and worked together, third I have but haven't gotten around to watching yet.

Edit Death to Smoochy is a great one that most people don't know about.

Lina Leanderson, thats the name I was thinking of. The other kid was great too. Shane Meadows is a very underrated director, the end of Dead Man's Shoes is one of the only film endings that actually made me sad. It didnt make me cry, but damn did it come close. I felt so bad for him at the end:(

I loved that ending so much, and i'm not ashamed to admit that it made me shed a tear. It's one of my favorite scenes next to Blade Runner's Tears in Rain scene. I heard there was an alternate ending for DMS, I haven't seen it yet though. "HTML is not well formed" glitch is very annoying.

"Evil Dead" and "Evil Dead II". Way underrated.

"Bad Taste" and "Meet the Feebles". Way underrated.

As far as overrated goes - all the "saw" movies. Go watch some Eli Roth movies instead, if you want gruesome. "The Hostel" is a decent pick.

Both these films have some of the most terrific acting and dialogue I have ever seen.

And this one is the only movie that had me close to grabbing a kleenex...
