Pick films that either got bad to average reviews or that left the theaters too quickly to get much notice or that not many mention here.

1. Two Lovers- This go got reviews, but it didnt do too well and it was Jaoquien phoenix's last film before he did that whole rapper thing. I really liked it, he and Gwyneth Paltrow were great in it.

2. The Informant!- It tried a bit too hard to be quirky at times and the music was awful, but I still quite liked it. Matt Damon was great.

3. Where the wild things are- Critics seem to love or hate this film. Some say it is too scary for kids and that the plot is too thin. I loved it, reminded me of a favorite film of mine The Fall.

4. The Invention of lying- It wasn't as funny as it could have been and the concept was better than the film itself, but I liked it. Had some funny moments and some surprisingly sincere and satirical ones, great cameos, and ricky gervais was surprisingly good in it.

5. The House of the devil- Another film that got pretty good reviews but most people ignored. It was a fun 80s homage horror filck.

6. Bad Lietenant: Port of call new orleans- This is again getting good reviews but it will be gone very soon. Nicholas Cage is a perfect match with Werner Herzog. Cage proves he can still act very well and this film improves on the original.

7. Big Fan

8. Extract

9. Boondock saints 2: All saints day- A very silly film that lacks Wilem Dafoe, but adds Billy Connoly and Peter Fonda. Problem is it also adds a really bad Julie benz and her terrible unfunny henchmen. Still a pretty fun film though

10. Trucker- I think I am the only person who has mentioned this film here so far.

I have the same problem a lot of the time. The only reason I see these films is because the Academy that nominates the Oscar films sends them to my dad who never watches most of them so I do:P Most of my friends would rather see New Moon, or 2012 rather than say The Road. Heck the only reason my friend want to see Me and Orson Welles is to see the totally hawt Zack Efron.

Ponyo was highly rated (competing with UP for best animation), but was under watched.:(

It really was a great movie, but was missed by many.

that sucks most of my friends just never want to go to the movies in general

and why would they want to see new moon hell most of the background scenes didnt even look real

they looked like one of those crappy backgrounds they use when they take your picture

I dont think Ponyo lasted long in theaters. I also saw Mary and Max recently and loved it. I dont know if that got a release yet but I think it is the best animated movie of 2009.

The Invention of Lying was pretty good. But I might just have thought so I 'cos I like Ricky Gervais' other films and his comedy = LOL

Obliabo

It had so many random cameos like Edward Norton as the cop, Phillip seymour hoffman as the barman, Jason Bateman as the doctor, rob lowe, tina fey, Jeffrey Tambor, jimmi simpson, martin starr, and Christopher guest. Some like Phillip seymour hoffman seemed thrown in for no apparent reason.

He was surprisingly good. He had a crying scene in particular that was very well done and emotional. He also wrote and directed the film too, but I like him so I am probably biased:P Just curious though, why dont you like Gervais?

It was only playing at one near me. It pretty much got left to die in a few theaters.

I agree, well it came out in 2009 near me though so it counts. Michael Fassbender was amazing in it, really convincing actor. Another underrated one this year is (Untitled), and Everlasting moments.

Transformers 2 is definately underrated. I was feeling fine before seeing it, but it actually gave me a headache, which is completely incredible when you think about it.

Wake in fright looks really interesting.

If you can't get it on DVD the whole thing is on Youtube in about 10 parts or so.

The acting was amazing. The Direction was amazing. That 15+ minute take was amazing. It was so damn brutal but beautiful. I really can't wait to see more of Steve McQueen.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. It couldve been better. Couldve had an actual plot that wasnt almost exactly like the first one. But all things considered, it was still a fairly awesome movie. I would like to have, you know, an actual plot for the 3rd one but even if there isnt (which Im not holding my breath for) I doubt I'll be disappointed. Great action, some good humour, great action, Peter Cullen (THE Optimus Prime), Megan Fox and its Transformers. I havent seen it since it was at the Cinema but I dont have a problem with that movie at all. Even if there are continuity errors. Woopdy doo. There are plenty in the original cartoon series and movie.

I have to say though when I saw the name of the director at first I thought the actor was still alive:P

I haven't seen too many 2009 movies, but...

Terminator Salvation. Nothing wrong with that movie, nothing wrong with McG's direction. Doesn't deserve the hate.

GI Joe. It's like someone filmed what was going on in my head when I was playing with action figures and stuff at the age of ten. I can't remember other movies that capture a kid's fantasy as well as this one and Speed Racer. It was just massive, dumb fun. Miles better than Transformers 2!

Gamer - I watched this last night expecting it to be mindless violence with no work on the story but was surprised at how deep it actually was. A lot of references to games, even a bot singing like GLaDOS. I think it takes a lot of influence from the first Matrix, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Well worth a watch.
