The United States would win simply because it has the world's strongest military. But from what I have heard from people in government, they say that our military is currently at it's breaking point. Another war might just push it over the limit. If there was a war between the two countries, no one would really win.

Actually, the ground assault would be easy for us too. The guerilla tactics are what's hard to combat when we occupy a country like Iraq. When we initially invaded Iraq in 2003, the actual fighting only took about a month. Attacking Iran doesn't mean occupying Iran like we are doing with Iraq.
I agree. The US would destroy Iran in war...but it would be very stupid to make such a move, especially with China And Russia waiting quietly in the background. Russia and China would pummel the USA...very quickly with nuclear weapons (and the USA would reciprocate equally...nuclear threat has never gone away...it's just not in the media), or more covertly using the USA's weakening economy and exponentially growing debt. More likely, it will be the latter. The USA is trillions of dollars and debt. I've said it before and I'll say it again...what happens when other nations start calling the US on their debt (Iran won't be one of them)? US corporations and realestate are for sale people. Make no mistake about it. The dollar is weak and it's being taken advantage of.

People always forget that Iran is twice the size of Iraq, with an army many times larger and better trained. It would undeniably be crushed in a war with the states but theres a really important factor people forget:
Iran is hill country. Its nothing like Iraq. Iraq is a big, flat and hardbaked desert with pans that extend for hundreds of kilometers. Iran has many areas of fertile land and is much closer to Afghanistan's type of terrain. Even now the Taliban hold some mountain hideouts, who is to say that the Revolutionary Guard could not do the same?

A country's national debt doesn't quite work the same as someone's personal debt. And the US has always been in debt. There was one time in the 1800's when the US actually had a surplus of a few million, but since then we've always been in debt.
us army is low on soldier morale and stuff like that. if they did got to war, it would be an interesting one. i hope iran doesnt use 9 yr olds to go through mine fields.... that was bad (iran-iraq war). i can imagine us winning in the end, but they would take heavy losses

They have a much larger army that we haven't already destroyed years earlier, like I said if it's all air strikes no problem.
We may actually be closer than we think to actually seeing war with Iran.

in a conventional war no one stands a chance against America.....I doubt Iran would want a conventional war though considering they train 12 million men to fight a guerilla war. This equals like 285623785 times toughter than Iraq. So the real question should be, can America hold on in Iran?

The Bush Administration has wanted to invade Iran since the beginning of his term. He laid it right out there with that Axis of Evil speech, as plain as day. It's getting near the end of his term and now they want to pull some bullcrap with Iran just like they did with Iraq. Hilariously they are using the same line of argument all over again even though it was complete rubbish with regards to Iraq and everyone (living outside of the confines of Fox News) knows it. I don't know whether I should laugh or cringe that they actually have the audacity to use WMDs as the excuse again, but then I guess it's hard for much else to justify another war of aggression. Do they really think that the population is that dumb or is our wonderful government just arrogant to the point of not even really caring whether anyone believes them or not? At this point they probably just figure it's not like anybody will really stop them anyway. As far as trying to justify their actions, it's like they're not even really trying anymore.
Bush and friends have wanted war with Iran since at least the start of his term, and I fully believe that they will use any excuse they can come up with to get it. Prove me wrong, Bush. Prove me wrong.
If it was a one-on-one, and we were playing "fair", (no guerilla warfare) the US for sure. Now, since we aren't going to play nice. We're split in Iraq and Afghanistan right now, so I don't think it'd be too hard to transfer troops for BOTH SIDES OF IRAN, to attack them. But we would REALLLLLY be stretched thin, we would need the help of, China, Russia, France, Germany, Britain, and Austrailia (I'm not sure if Japan has an Army? They SHOULDN'T have one, but meh.) If ALL those guys helped us out, Iran stands no chance. But the more countries that side with Iran or stay neutral, the more likely Iran has a chance.
USA:M1A2 Iran has it's own tank force...thats a good thing about their industry, do not udnerestimate. And do not overestimate American army, without the air superiority America could even fail to invade Iran.
