I have this laptop, it's extremely old (1GB hard drive, 16mb RAM) and I'd like to use it to download torrents of totally legal public domain movies *winkwink* overnight, instead of leaving my loud desktop computer on. Thing is, because the laptop is so old, it doesn't have a usb port, but it does have a network card and a floppy disc drive. So what I think I'll do is find a linux distro that fits on a floppy, download torrents that are under 1GB, then in the morning transfer the download over the network to my desktop computer. But before I dive into this I'd like some advice from the community here. Keep in mind that it is an extremely slow computer.

  • Which linux distro can fit on a floppy?
  • Can I, using a Cat5 cable, transfer files directly from my laptop to my desktop?
  • And can I control the laptop from the desktop?
Thanks in advance for the help:)

Wait 50 years. It will probably be worth more than it once was.

Well, try puppy, or DSL linux, those are the only two that might work. But Utorrent takes like 4mb of ram while it isn't downloading, it will more while you are downloading. I am not sure if this will work, and I am not sure if you can connect it directly to the desktop, and I know that you cannot control the laptop from the desktop.

I probably won't use uTorrent, I've heard of clients that run from the command line.

Actually on second thoughts Windows95 is already installed on it. Might just use that, easier to communicate with my XP machine.

compile linux kernel 2.4 and don't even install xf86. Just have fun learning to use elinks and cli tools. Or try delilinux.

Edit:

This can install from dos. And yes it is a linux distro.
