[QUOTE="warbmxjohn"]Marketing is to blame. Vampire/Goth apparel is a strong market and people are quick to try and capitalize. Most mainstream anything is not much more than disguised yet glorified investments and advertisements. swatsickle

I know.

How to you go from this:
Nosferatu2.jpg Nosferatu Pic image by cafehey

To this:

Thats why I like 30 Days of Night so much. The vampires in it are truly the monsters they should have been. Humanoid in form, but just barely so.

Exactly, it's a shame the route the mainstream vampire has taken.

The creature seriously needs to be reinvented.

Reinventing? Hell, they just gotta return to the roots.

Though I would welcome a new spin to vampirism.

[QUOTE="warbmxjohn"]What's ironic is there is money to be made on that very idea.

warbmxjohn

The idea of creating a vampire series where they all shop for clothes in Paris or the idea of 'reinventing the vampire'?

The vampire definitely could be reinvented, granted someone could get it right.

Reinventing, the fashion theme is already being hit hard. I was just saying that in an effort to reinvent the vampire to get back to its primal feral nature and escape the manipulative grip capitalism has on that creature's image, would ironically be a new demographic to appeal to.. Just a rant on the infinite cycle of capitalism.

Funnily enough I am writing a vampire story that hopes to bring back the more feral vampire, though I think you should see the film let the right one in for the more feral vampire thing, the book too is great.

WHat new spin could be done though, there isnt really much to do left.

Theres always a new way to spin something.. Vampire Romantic Comedy? Haha But seriously, capturing that feral, morbid, natural instinct would almost be a spin as it hasn't been as intense as I would imagine real vampires to actually be.

 Another great Laughing_God topic... I'd have to go with the generic Vampire because he cannot be killed by conventional weaponry.

These were some of my ideas:

-vampires more shadow-based
-getting rid of the two canine fangs and giving them either all fangs or just human teeth
-get rid of the sunlight danger thing or just make sunlight completely neutral (seriously, this is one of the biggest beefs I have with vampires)

Basically, my idea would be that a vampire is a person who can only feed off blood and must drink blood to stay alive, never get older but remain the age they were when they 'transformed,' they don't need to bite the neck, they can drink the blood out of anywhere, they don't have the distictive 'two-holes' that they always throw on the victims in vampire movies, they don't necessarily have super-strength, maybe enhanced strength, but not Herculean strength and hyper-speed (I mean, think a bit realistically for crying out loud), they are not immortal, yet can live for a very long time granted they continue to feed on blood, they can bite someone without infecting them, but can infect someone if they swallow the blood and put it back into their victim, they might not have fangs that bite their victims as much as they might just use a knife to make a cut and drink out of that.

And seriously, I feel like the whole, 'walk into sunlight, poof into flames' thing needs to go. The idea of the sunlight killing vampires is based on theology and the idea that Christ is the light that smashes the evil and seriously, vampires should just walk around and do all the normal things that other humans do, whether it's daylight or nighttime or whenever.

Vampires can have some kind of enhanced speed and strength, but not to a ridiculous extent as always shown in movies. The reason werewolves should be able to have stronger speed and strength is because they only get it for only 8 hours out of an entire 30 days, wheras for vampires it's constant, therefore it should be less.

Go read an Anne Rice book and you'll see for yourself.

They may not 'glitter' in the sunlight, but there is always more than one way to be totally lame.

Well in my vampire story I was thinking of having the vampires be weak like humans in sunlight but stronger and with some abilities at night. Also some vampires in my story have the no fangs thing, they use syringes to get blood. The vampire film Martin explores that concept already though.

Maybe there could be some photophobia (fear or hatred of light) involved, but I find if off-balance when there's absolutely no problem when a vampire is sitting indoors at night with indoor light but bursts into flames at the first sign of sunlight. It should be more of a spectrum, I actually kind of like the idea, that they get weaker the more light there is and stronger the more darkness there is. Therefore, fighting a vampire in a pitchblack area (such as a cave) is dangerous because the vamp will be at the top of their game.

The Predator, of course. Cloaking device, plasma caster, and all other types of bladed weapons are more than enough. And if he loses, he just needs to nuke the whole place.

How much stronger though you think, cause the vampires in my story are mostly younger than 18. I was thinking that maybe in darkness their fangs come out and in day they look just like humans and their fangs retract. I dunno if they should have some kinda weakeness or something like that.

The Terminator. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead

I guess I missed that movie? I may have to reconsider my vote...

Jason X. It's awesome.

Oh god I thought that movie was absolutely awful. I was laughing the entire time. On topic, it would be between Predator and Terminator to me, and I'd have to then put my money on Terminator, though it would be a good fight.

If the vampire is anything like alucard from Hellsing, then the vampire wins easily.

Terminator or Predator. They both have different weapons than our time period.

Preds disc or plasma caster would destroy Jason.
