I'm sitting here watching Orphan with my family, including my 11 year old sister, and we get to the part where the dude bends the chick over the table and starts the drilling. My mom goes "CHLOE, COVER YOUR EYES" and my step dad quickly mashes the mute button.

Can you recall your first R rated movie experience?

I'm young (21), I think my first was Hellraiser...that junk scared me half to death.

I think the Matrix was my first R.....it wasn't bad because it was originally PG-13. I really haven't watched a whole lot of movies until last year, because my parents were really strict when I lived with them.

For rated R movies, who knows what the first one I saw was. Probably something my dad was watching while I was supposed to be asleep?

Heh, I watched plenty of films with my mom when I was younger (my dad isn't a movie fan), and some of them that kind of scenes. My parents were ok with it, and reminded me that it's a part of life like any other, no need to censor it...

I don't really remember, but it might've been Jerry Maguire lol. On a related note, my friend's first movie in a theatre was Starship Troopers in 5th grade. His dad took him, and he was pretty confused lol.

If you go back and look at it from todays standards, they are ****ing *****ded but back then, they were pretty scary to a kid and some adults no doubt. Actually come to think of it, I'm sure Chucky was one of the first R rated movies I came across because my mom had bought me a My Buddy doll for one of my birthdays but I had already seen the movie and I was scared as hell of that thing .____________.

Hmm...I can't agree, I remember being real young watching them wrestle with the Chucky doll and I'm just thinking "seriously? you can't get away from a 2 ft tall cabbage patch rip off?" But was it supposed to be like that guy's strength went into the doll too? That would change my perspective but it just didn't feel right.

Yeah you've got a point. It just seemed like with it being a doll it couldn't possibly be that strong. Now, that doll from Tales From The Hood, that doll scared me.

1. I think you mean read/see...not hear...unless you have a really high end computer program 2. Kind of the point of the topic...first sex or violent movie witnessed by posters...see other posters discussing the Orphan sex scenes in detail and others discussing violent movies 3. Then don't post in a topic that is going to be about witnessing sex and violence in movies...pretty simple

Do we even have an R in our rating system? I see it pop up occasionally but I think it's just a result of cheap distribution companies who don't bother putting Canadian rating stickers on movies. Or maybe it's different between theatrical releases and home release.

Sort of. It goes G, PG, 14A, 18A, and then (I think) A for adult. Part of me is thinking there's also an R rating between 18A and Adult, but that seems redundant somehow and it might only apply in certain provinces. Quebec has a completely different system because they like being insane.
