so I have a virus on my computer that won't let me use anything in the control panel, and it trys to take me to a porn site, and is trying to get me to download a virus protection program which i think is part of the virus. also when i try to download another virus protection program avg for example it says the file is infected and won't allow me to download it. does anyone have any ideas how to stop this? Thanks

google the name of the "protection software" it wants you to download and the first hit will probably be a guide as to how you remove the virus. good luck

look for a smitfraud fix on google, go into safe mode and use it

get rid of any free virus scanner. only people who cant tell if theyre infected anyway say theyre good. virus scanners in general are worthless ever since polymorphic viruses became popular

Wow, this sounds exactly like what I just fixed on my Aunts computer (minus the porn). She had a rogue program that wouldn't let me click anything in the panel that was offering to sell me virus protection. I went in with Safe Mode, removed the main program, installed MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS, and ran it. Took a while, but it eventually removed 62 viruses. Computer works like a charm now, and I am proud of myself for fixing my first PC.
