Proof?SatanshelperGoogle Windows Vienna. I saw it on the news.
I think people need to know what Vienna will have and see if it is indeed better than Vista for the average user. Just to write off Vista as a waste of money is awfully ignorant. I think the TC doesn't have much knowledge in O/S development and structure.quack_erEnlighten us n00bs.. what is so great about Vista that we can't wait two years for? Oh and IMHO, Vista seems to have a worse structure then XP seeing as it seems to require such a good computer just to run it. :?
Vienna could just be an update of Vista. Like Media Centre is of XP. Im not interested in Vista anyway, MCE is doing fine for me.Big_Bad_SadNo it's not. Vista is an improved, fleshed out version of XP with a new look. Vienna is the first OS microsoft have made where they start from scratch. It's supposed to be a fraction of the size of the other OSs, requiring a negligable amount of resources to operate while still being the most advanced OS yet.

I might be able to get my hopes up for that. :)
What happened to that "Longhorn" thing?nick3333Windows Longhorn was just the codename for Vista back in the beta stage. Longhorn was derived from a Barber shop across from the MS UK branch that all the exec's in the UK would go to during lunch. As a matter a fact, right next to it is a rival barber shop known as Black Comb which is the code name for Windows Server 2008. Vista has the potential to be better than XP for the average user due to the interface's design, because lets face it, average users are brain dead when it comes to computers. The sleek easy to navigate GUI is exactly what the base consumer needs as they are to lazy to learn the basics of a fundamental OS. Some may even be scared of learning, as technology still frightens many. On a corporate level though vista offers no advantages due to the complex hardware requirements that a company doesn't feel they need to pay for. This is alleviated somewhat by companies like dell who offer breaks in the cost per unit if they purchase a bulk contract (Like here at Warner Bros where I work). There is always the incompatibility issue with older software that many companies cling to, which makes the transition difficult, and even sometimes impossible. For example some things are still run on NT 4.0, that cant be upgraded due to the fact the manufacturer of the software no longer exists. Or a new version was never released for a WIn98 program that works well enough for the time being. All in all Im going to give it a chance, as it cannot be nearly as bad as ME had been, and it could certainly be made to be a more effective and productive OS then XP was. I also see alot of gaming influence in the design, which leads me to believe PC gaming is about to evolve. One thing is for sure though, its still better than any Mac.
ill be upgrade in 2015kyleali11Same. I'll probably use XP until at least 2010. There is no reason to change. It does everything you could possibly want and never crashes.
I'll pass on Vista for now. XP is doing a fine job.HupHupOranjeIt sure is ^_^. The only thing I see Vista doing is making us upgrade the heck out of our systems, and the only pay-off I see is DX10... but that doesn't even count if you don't play the latest and greatest PC games. Waste of money the way I see it.
[QUOTE="Bobby_Oz"][QUOTE="Erasorn"][QUOTE="EJ902"]Considering they intend to start from scratch (what they originally planned for vista), I think it'll take a bit longer than 2 years.EJ902They have been working on it since 2000 according to some sources. 2004 actually. Ah, I see. I knew they had already started it, but I didn't realise it's already 3 years into developement. They were primarily working on WinFS (Windows Future System) which was to replace NTFS as the main file system, but they couldn't get the file level permissions level to work properly (Which was the main feature on WinFS). Id say about 50% of the code was directly derived from previous Windows Versions.
[QUOTE="limpbizkit818"]My old laptop broke, getting a new PC this weekend. No reason for me to not get Vista.Bobby_OzWhats your budget look like for the PC? Was thinking of getting a decent $1,000 - $1,500 PC and upgrading later down the road. I have the money saved up so its no big deal to me if I have to send a little extra.
Why is Vista 'a load of crap'?[QUOTE="sthadji"][QUOTE="yoporahh"]Vista is a load of crap. i bought it, believe me dont even think about buying ityoporahh
Name 1 reason y it is so great or even good
I don't know. I haven't used Vista. But calling Vista a 'load of crap' is pretty harsh. What's wrong with it?Why is Vista 'a load of crap'?[QUOTE="sthadji"][QUOTE="yoporahh"]Vista is a load of crap. i bought it, believe me dont even think about buying ityoporahh

No one said it was good. People just want to know why you think it is crap.[QUOTE="nick3333"]What happened to that "Longhorn" thing?Bobby_OzWindows Longhorn was just the codename for Vista back in the beta stage. They got the names from the Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort in British Columbia.
