I thought it was pretty curious that after some searching around the internet I could not find any contemporanious historians recording Jesus of Nazareth's actual existence. A lot of Christians will point out Josephus, however there is actually only one line that they are actually referencing. Some people believe this line that talks of Jesus Christ to actually be a mistranslation. Regardless Josephus was not born until after Christ's supposed death. I can't make up my mind either way on this matter.

Yeah, whether you are religious or not, he was real. The contorversial thing is his abilities, not his existence.

Technically no. Since he was the 'son of god' he shouldnt have been human or a real person in any case.

There isn't a single self-respecting historian, even the most athiestic, who would claim that Jesus of Nazareth wasn't a real person.

Well they only called him that because he was supposively born from a virgin, and he started preaching about God in his 30's.

So technically he wouldnt be a son of god right? just a creation as all humans... well, in the religous sense.

The other thing you have to consider with the whole was Christ a real person thing is that to deny him not being real is like chalking up the entirety of Western civilization to myth. It'd be a huge blow to not just religious people but even those who are not, since we have all been inherently shaped by Christianity.

I'm generally ignorant in this specific matter so I'm just looking for some sources that would be for his existence. The reason I say contemporanious historian is because the farther the time of the records are from the actual event the more likely it is that the writer will be effected by cultural forces that hurt the credibility of his writing.

he was a real person. see tacitus and josephus

BTW, while their is little historical evidence outside the new testament proving jesus' existence, there is absolutely no historical evidence that suggests that the person who early christians worshipped did not exist

When it comes down to it, its really not a big deal that our civilization be based upon myth. After all thats how all ancient civilizations reared themselves. It's just that nowadays we're so strict on logic and rational that even the most astute of people who claim atheism wouldnt dare go near such a disastrous question.

Oh and the question of Josephus writing about Christ is a proven forgery. You'd be more akin to finding historical evidence of Christ by Buddhists in India. Seriously.

The name doesn't fit...bad translation...and you'd have to take that up with the historical scholoars whom said it was true.

Actually a good portion of the Bible is actual historical fact, because The Bible was used as a means to keep track of birthrights and records.

This is off-topic but whatever. I think he should be able to say whatever he wants but what wolves did say isn't exactly the best way to enter into debate. This is coming from an Atheist who believes Christianity deserves absolutely no respect.
