Poll Was voting for Hillary a wasted vote? (21 votes)

Yes, would've been better given to green party 48%
No, my vote wasn't about fearing Trump, I would've voted for Hillary anyway 52%

I mean, if you had to choose between Jill Stein & Hillary, without being feared into voting for Hillary, would you have voted for Jill Stein?

I'm curious about what was the majority of democratic voter mindset going into this election

I think things would be much better if everyone voted on the person that they truly want instead of voting because how they "think" that other people are potentially going to vote. It creates an either/or scenario.

Yes because she didn't win but more people were voting for the Democratic machine, not Clinton

If you didn't want Trump to win then voting for anyone BUT Hilary was wasted. Not like they were going to win anyway. Also abstaining is voting in a negative way.

Lemme preface by saying that I have done absolutely no research on Stein, but they way people talked about her, isn't she basically a conservative hiipy? Again, I don't know anything about her, nor can I be bothered to google her. I am just going purely off hearsay.

It wasn't a wasted vote voting for Hillary. Voting for the candidate of your choice lets your voice be heard. Hillary Clinton did win the popular vote which means more people supported her than Trump(barely).

It also lets the powers that be(a Rep. sweep for the first time in a long time-12 years?) know where we stand and that this country is divided. It will be up to Pres. elect Trump and the Rep House and Senate to mend our country. Hopefully they at least entertain bipartisan interests to accomplish that goal.

Even if the result does not reflect what the people wanted, their voices were still heard.

Trump and the rest of the government now know that the majority of the country does not stand with him, and this will effect how they act.

There were a lot things I really liked about Hillary and I was voting for her because her policies were good and her economic plans were sound.

In the broader sense it feels like voting at all was a waste given that she won the popular vote and lost anyways.

I really really doubt that this is true. The republicans in congress spent the last eight years being a blockade for anything and everything. They knew it was unpopular and did it anyways. I'm of the opinion that Trump and the Republicans have power (literally all of it) and won't be timid about using it.

Oh it's most certainly going to be a bad 4 years, but I don't think the votes were completely wasted. Even if it's just one minor politician who stops for a moment to think about how his decisions will effect his future reputation and career, that's still a difference.

I voted green.

Hillary is still a wasted vote to me.

Bernie should have been the nominee.

I think the rabid pro-Clinton crowd will blame anyone that voted for a third party; in some states, Johnson got as high as 3% (and I am sure Stein, etc took up another 1% or so) and those votes would have gone to Clinton had they not gone to a third party.

It's funny because I often say "I wish we third parties had an impact on elections" and people always jump down my throat and go "THEY DO THEY STEAL FROM CLINTON!" before I have a chance to either say or imply "...a positive or significant effect". Like, I want them to get 20+% of the vote. I want them to participate in the debates. In short, I want them to be taken seriously. Johnson is a goofball. The Green Party is great, but Stein is kind of a nutter.

The only wasted votes, imo, are the ones not cast. I think even if you write in Flying Spaghetti Monster and you are the most cynical, apathetic, or whatever voter, even if you spend the time to wait in line or show up, you demonstrate at least a little bit that you care.

No way was it a wasted vote, she is smarter, tougher, more experienced, had a more sweeping inclusive vision than anybody else that was running. She understands climate change, wanted to improve education costs, and intended to steer the Supreme Court to be closer to reflecting the values of American people. She also intended to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them.

Proud to say I voted for her, and when Trump disgraces the presidency, I can say I didn't vote for that clueless clown.

This is ridiculous.

It was 47.7% against 47.5%. Combine that with the extremely low turnout rate and you end up having no idea what the majority believes. Thus the government won't care a single shit about your reasoning. Just compare it with Bush's first 4 years.

Trump won. Please give us some more salty tears.

Actually he would be against 52.5%. That's basic maths.

Except there were other candidates than Hillary and Trump and there's no evidence that the people voting on these would prefer Clinton.

I love how these leftists would just have laughed conservatives out of the country if Clinton won and they came up with such shitty and butthurt arguments.

The popular vote ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I'm sure Democrats will bring up that fact the 1st time Republicans do something they don't like and when Republicans turn around and say: "we don't give a ****"; that will be the end of that, just like that.

Agreed! The Electoral College has too much power in a so called "democracy". This election has made the US not unlike Hong Kong at this point with the many protests.

Couldn't bring myself to vote for Trump or Hillary or those two clowns, Johnson and Stein, so I voted for McMullins. While I'm not a mormon and I don't agree with every aspects of their religion, I admired their devotion to their set of morals.

I strongly dislike Clinton but voted for her because I wanted to make the strongest anti-Trump vote possible. The only thing that mattered to me was keeping that madman out of the White House. He symbolizes backwards racist and sexist attitudes. I wanted to vote against that. A hell of a lot of people ended up having a higher tolerance for those traits than I would have thought.

@AFBrat77: All of us...and I do mean ALL should be praying very fervently that the man who ran for office is NOT the man who sits as President. I speak of his decorum and social interactions. If so he will be a disgrace.

Not a fan of Pres. elect Trump. But you know what? I wasn't a fan of W. either(still not a fan) but the world keeps spinning and we still have to support our leader. It is VERY rare that a particular party stays in power more than two terms in recent history. Reagan to HW was the last time that happened.

Unless Trump is the greatest president of the last 20 years he almost certainly won't get a second term. Having said that, don't count out Pres Elect Trump. For all of his failings(and there are SEVERAL) the dude has been winning at life since before several of us were born. Very possible he'll get tons of wins as Pres. And that will be good for everyone.

@Archangel3371: I wish this was true. Sadly, it would take a very long time to train the public out of this mindset. It's why I didn't vote third party.

On topic, I fail to see how that's a wasted vote. To me, any vote against Trump was not wasted.
