This war film is on television at the moment and I'm wondering if anyone has seen it. I've seen it over 5 times, and I must say it's pretty good. I loved Mel Gibson's speech before the soldiers went to war. Any thoughts?

It's a pretty disguting piece of Hollywood pop-entertainment, in my opinion. jointed
True, Hollywood does tend to overdo things, but I also think its an entertaning flick.
yes it is a good movie one of the best war films Ive ever seen that part where they drop the napalm on there own men is screwed up when i first saw it i thought it was one of the most Graphic scenes ever in any war movie it was truly shocking :(.
i love that film
except the bit where the asians guys skin is peeling off *shudder*
ace-of-spades93
That bit was cut out from the TV version, only on the DVD version i think.
Love it, definately in my top 5... Seen it loads.
So emotional as well as action-packed, with a great performance by Gibson. The speech was great, but this is my favourite scene.
I just the noticed the TV version has so many scenes cut out from it like the violent ones.

Did they cut out the bit where the guy gets hit with a napalm grenade, and the skin gets pulled off his leg? It was scenes like that which made the film so powerful.

I think so, and they cut out some bits when the artillery guns fire at the Vietcong.

Bah... Stupid TV edits...
The more i watch it the more i dislike it.. I mean they drop napalm all over the Vietcong.. but when some of there guys get it it turns all emotional and slow. tries to jerk a tear out of something that has been happening throughout the film.

The Vietnamese are people too, and they are both trying to kill so I dont see how its that different. They both have families and friends who love them probably too.

I want to see a Vietnam war film from the Vietnamese point of view, either north or south. Heck why not both? All we get is from the Americans point of view, which gets dull after a while. There are two sides to every war.
Film-Guy
agreed but i doubt it would be made by an American .

Probably not, I would love to see it happen though. Sorta like how Clint Eastwood did Letters from iwo jima.
Exactly why i begin to dislike it more and more, starts to seem more like a propaganda driven Movie.i see what your saying they should have show it more from the Vietcong side of things but its not its show from some Americans prospective and they really ain't going to care if a bunch of vietcong get burned to death by napalm seen as there the people trying to kill them it would be the same if the boot was on the other foot .

I am not saying it is a bad movie because of it, but i just dislike it slightly for that reason.

I get what you mean. But at least its not as bad as some other war films which clearly has a good and bad sides.

Yea Agreed, it is only a couple of scenes within We are soldiers, but it does try to give some sort of balance.. even if it is quite small (the book in the vietcong's pocket). But there are much much worse propaganda driven films out there yea. Please Log In to post.
