I have a couple questions concerning web browsers and please answer any that you can. 1. How can you make your own browser in linux? Is there a tutorial somewhere? I dabbled a little in windows but that was it. 2. Why isn't safari on linux? It's on mac and WINDOWS why not linux, I figure it would have been on linux well before windows IMHO. 3. What is your favorite web browser mine is Opera or Safari. (I'd say opera because safari isn't on linux)

I'd say my least favorite is safari right behind Internet Explorer. It's not on linux because it's a browser made specifically for Mac OS, it is only ported to other OS's if apple so chooses, it is their product after all. However Opera is great and so is Firefox and Chrome. The last 2 I use most often, I can't choose between them.

1. Why do you want to make your own in Linux?

2. Because to hell with Safari.

3. Chrome and Firefox.

Opera, Firefox and Chrome work on linux, btw. Linux distributions usually come with Firefox pre-installed.

1. I want things that I made with all the personal touches I'd like. 2. That's one way of putting it I guess.

You know making your own web browser will take months and that's if you are proficient in programing. You have to make sure the browser is able to load HTML properly as well as provide a good interface in which to interact with. Plus you have to program it to block out all bloat wear and malicious software that plagues the internet. You've also got to program it to save and access cookies and the local cash at a moments notice. I don't think you'll be to successful at creating your own internet browser. Just get Mozilla Firefox and load it will customization and add-ons.

That's what I was afraid of. Also if firefox (or any other OpenSource browser) Is open source than couldn't I take thier source code and edit it to be a little more personal to me?

What he said. Creating something that already exists to this extent is a far greater undertaking than you most likely want to do. It'd be best if you just download Firefox, Chrome, or Opera and get plug-ins and extensions that have those "personal touches" you want. It's possible to program extensions for browsers that already exist as well if you can't find one that does what you need.

You can make your own browser, but you'll need to learn programming, and to build a web browser as sophisticated as Firefox, Chrome, etc you'll need to get damn good at it. You could look into extension development for Chrome or Firefox to add functionality to those browsers.

Firefox is under the GNU license (I think), so yes.

Good luck.
