So, for the past couple of nights, I had trouble falling asleep (but fell asleep regardless). But the problem is, I've built up this anxiety that prevents me from sleeping. In my head, I keep saying "damnit I can't sleep", and things like that. And now its turned into this weird feeling in my stomach. Its the same feeling of stage fright, or "butterflies in your stomach" :( I don't know how to explain it. But its worrying me, and prevents me from falling asleep fast.

I am going through the exact same thing. I have reasons why I can't fall asleep and that's causing my heart to beat rapidly, my stomach feel weird, and my eyes open. I am going through some real bad anxiety right now, but I think once I complete what's causing my anxiety I'll be ok.

Could try some melatonin. Always helped me, took 3 of 'em one time, and slept 14 hours. :P

Do you have other things that are worrying you? What I often do is slowly count backwards from 99and breathe slow. If you lose count keep doing it over. If you find yourself thinking again...keep doing it. You could also read or hug a nice big pillow too, or something. Sometimes when I cant sleep I sleep the wrong way in bed, or sleep on the couch, etc.

I tried that last night, I went to the couch, then went back to bed (which worked). But anywho, no, there's nothing bugging me. I even stopped to think in bed if there's anything worrying me, and no, doesn't seem to be anything. I don't have school right now (starts next week), etc. hmm......

I have that to, sometimes you just can't sleep for a reason. I have no idea what those reasons are...but when I can't sleep I just read a book or something for half an hour then try to sleep again.

Forcing yourself to sleep when you cant sleep just causes you too much stress that you cant sleep. A vicious cycle. Instead -- start off by turning off the computer and the TV and other "mental" stimulants/distractions. Then start mentally preparing yourself for bed time. Ambience - lower temperature, no distracting lights and noise, etc. Then do some stretches and breathing exercises to calm the body down. If you put lotion or moisturizers at night feel free to do those right now as well. Then get in bed and close your eyes and relax. If after a while you say to yourself, I can't sleep then sit up, turn the lights back on and grab a book, or draw or something else that is not totally stimulating and perhaps boderline boring to you. A glass of milk also helps. (You can do that after stretching as well). The thing is -- you have to do this every night at around the same time to get your body clock adjusted too.

That's fine. If it helps you then its not a distraction... :) On that note -- It is my bed time and I need to get off of this distraction. I'll check on this thread and the other one in the morning. Sweet dreams everyone.

One thing leads to another, "damnit I can't sleep", "butterflies in your stomach" prevents from falling asleep.

Here is my advice, when you get anxious then instead of thinking "damnit I can't sleep",

THINK"being anxious is not a part of me, it is something coming from the outside trying to be something inside me, but I will not allow it ,because it is not part of me".

You have to reverse it now, do some workout before you go to sleep, run every night, do sports.

One common resolve is to have an orgasm before bedtime. The feeling of relaxation, combined with a drainage of energy is said to help ya get a good nights sleep. ;)

Sounds stress related. Might be worth asking a medical professional...

Some things you could try:

-Reducing caffeine intake

-Exercise

-Reading

-Warm milk before bed

Whatever you do don't try stilnox sleeping pills, they're known to cause sleepwalking in people.

Just keep telling yourself that you can go to sleep instead of telling yourself that you can't.

I use to *and still do* have bad panic attacks and anxiety, the best way to cope with it is deal with it seriously, i had too but i said hey this dumb feeling is all in my head making it as worst then it seems, so i laid down, though about some hot girls and some smoke and my mind was off the anxiety, so i went to watch porn after.

Wow this really reminds me of what I was like a few years back. It was weird how I got over it I just watched movies every night. Weird yer? It worked for me just watch movies when you would normally be getting ready to go to bed it helped me a lot. I would keep on thinking in my head that im supoised to be asleep right now thats what buged me but I couldnt sleep so once I watched a movie and nowI havent had a sleeping problem in a long time.
