I have come to the conclusion that i am weird and not normal.  For one thing, I am pretty much nocturnal.  I'm writing this at 1:10 a.m. and it feels like what 7:00 p.m. used to feel to me.  I wake up at 1:00'ish (that's pm), then start school (I do pseo at home), and end school around 7:00.  I usually can't fall to sleep until around 3:00.  And then there's my hearing problem.  It's gotten steadily worse.  When I do school, I can hear anything that goes on inside my house.  If I hear something, I have trouble comprehending my reading or anything else.  The strange thing is, I only have really good hearing when I am concentrating.  If I'm just playing a video game, my hearing is normal.  There's more.  Whenever I look outside on a sunny day, it hurts a lot and i normally get headaches.  I know it's normal to not be able to look directly at the sun, but it's far worse in my case.  Also, I have found it harder to sit around and do nothing.  I always feel like i should be doing something more with my time and it drives my crazy until i start snapping at everyone, when it is really my fault.  Also, I feel like working out a lot, and that just seems strange considering I've never palyed any sports. Anyway, the reason I made this topic is because i thought there might be some people who have the same.....oddities.  I want to figure myself out.

Many artists like Michelangelo had an eccentric personality and was extremely talented. Instead of trying to figure yourself out, you should accept it as a gift.

You might have ADHD. But seeing as I'm not a certified doctor my opinion might be worth as much as your hearing.

No i don't.  I'm not hyper or anything.  I don't have any of the normal symtoms for that.  I may have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder).

That's how I am though. I like to figure everytihng out.  I'm always thinking.  I even think about what other people may be thinking.  I am very logical...but at the same time...illogical.  In other words, there is little logic in my use of logic.

I don't play video games often at all (maybe 2-4 hours a week) nad I don't watch much tv either (I don't have cable).  In regards to OCD, I can be compulsive to some extent, so it is possible.  Still, I am not that stressed or depressed overall.  I just overreact to some things and I get stressed for little reason.  Still, that doesn't explain my incredible hearing, resistance to sunlight, and being nocternal.

ur an owl?

since ur nocturnal, ur obviously resistance to sunlight, and since in the night u lack great eyesight (unless ur a cat), ur other senses would improve, such as ur hearing.

I think I've been misunderstood.  I'm not saying I have huge issues, and I'm not trying to get any medical help.  I know the easy solution to changing a bad sleep cycle is by setting an alam earlier, but it feeels so natural for me to be awake during the night.  I have a good life and I don't have like...suicidal thoughts or anytihng.  I just want to know more about myself and if anyone else is like that.

Maybe you're a vampire or werewolf.

I'm like you.  I usually don't go to bed till around 8AM, and then sleep until 6 or 7 PM.....but it's mostly from depression.  Maybe you're depressed?

A werewolf? Hm....I do have 5 pictures of wolves in my room not counting a wolf wallpaper and calender.  That would make sense.  My brother once called my a vampire because I was always in my room and I hate garlic.  I think if i was either, i would definately be a werewolf.  Still, that would be impossible because they are not real.

I really don't feel...depressed.  I just think i should be doing something more with my life.  I am the stay at home type and I don't like to travel, but I still have a need for adventure.  I want to do something great...

Edit: in case you were wondering, i was completely serious about the whole wolf thing. I just like wolves.

Well that's good to know.  I'm actually the same way with tv.  I can't watch it for too long without wanting to do something with my hands.  Another thing that i do that most people don't is....well...kinda hard to explain.  Since I think about everything and like to do all work before "play", i really only try to enjoy myself on friday night.  When I say enjoy, i mean really enjoy myself.  I wait until everyone in my family is asleep (I'm 17) and I get in bed and.....no no no it's not what you're thinking.  I'm by myself.  Anyway, I get in bed and play a dvd show....like andy griffith or something....and eat all my favorite snacks, like lowfat icecream and salt and vinager chips.  If I watch something like that or eat ice cream or fattening foods at any other time, i feel like it's a waste.  i mean...you can ony watch something for the first time once, so you may as well enjoy it.  It's also not a good idea to eat fatening or expensive foods often, so it's best to do it when you can enjoy it.  Anyway, my family thinks I'm weird for doing this.  Like...I ask why they are watching a movie while on the treadmill instead of waiting until they can truly relax and enjoy it, and they just don't understand.  Anyone else like that?

Holy moley! :o

You just described me. I always need contstant stimulation like games, books, movies. If not, I pace back and forth in my living room like trapped animal.

I love the night, and could stay all the way through if my parents didn't limit me. Not complaining.

The slightest creaks in my house come to my attention, where my family were unawares.

Well, i don't need constant stimulation.  i jsut hate not getting anything accomplished.  My school is hard (it's early college work), but I feel better at the end of week days than i do on weekends if i get nothing done.  But I do hear slight creeks in my house.  It's hard becuase that is where I do school.  I hate to boss everyone around, but I need to get school done.

So....is anyone like what I described beofre with the friday night? Like do you like to watch dvds/movies often or at the spur of the moment? If so, then that is very different from me.

Jeez, you are homeschooled, you havent played a sport in your life, you ahve the urge to work out and are probably not doing it, it hurts when you look out your window, I would hate to think what it would be like if you went outside. But waking up at 1pm is normalish for a teenager.

That's really not that odd compared to a lot of the guys I knew in college.  The sleep schedule is whatever you make it.  I used to stay up until 3-4am (sometimes 6am) and wake up at 10am back when I was in college, and several of my roommates were basically the same except they would sleep until after noon.  Now that I have a job, though, I can rarely stay up past midnight.  Hearing things that you would normally not hear when reading is nothing abnormal, especially if you read slowly.  So if you are studying, you will probably be reading more slowly than when reading for pleasure, and you will be more easily distracted.  As far as I can tell, that is just a matter of how interested you are in the material you are reading and how much you are trying to slow down your mind to comprehend what you are reading.  It is a nuissance, and I have never gotten over that.  As for sunlight hurting your eyes, that is probably an effect of spending more of your time in artificial lighting (and especially at night when there is less ambient light coming in the windows).  I also noticed that I had trouble adjusting to sunlight when I was on more of a nocturnal schedule or even when I worked in a well lit, windowless research lab for a summer.  And as for wanting to work out, I would assume that your body is simply trying to tell you that it has more energy than necessary if you are staying inside most of the time.  I would suggest simply taking up light jogging either when you first wake up, or in the evening when it is cool outside.  Not only would it be good for you with the whole sunlight thing and just getting exercise, but it may very well help you to get past feeling like you need to work out.

Naturally, these are just my thoughts based on my observations of myself and several friends through college.  Everyone will be different, but you don't really sound weird.

That's not weird, in fact that's pretty normal.

Younger people tend to have different sleep cycles than oder people.  They tend to stay up later and sleep in very late.

Your hearing is not abnormal.  Many people note similar issues especially when trying to sleep or concentrate.  They become more aware of normal, ambient noises.

As for your eyes, I'm not sure.  If you are sitting in a dark environment and then suddenly look into a bright light - yes, your eyes will hurt until they adjust.  That's just a little spasm.

honestly, not to be rude, sounds like you have ADD.  You should see you doctors, as for the sunlight hurting your eyes, its probably because you are asleep half the day, the other half is spent in front of a monitor, which makes you eyes sensitive to light.  You should start hiking, or skateboarding, or riding a bike, or get an RC car, something to keep you occupied and that you enjoy, and I gaurantee you attitude towards people will improve.  You need to find hobbies you enjoy that are not in front of the computer, find other nerds in your area who enjoy the hobbie and life will improve. I'm the same way with concentrating, any noise/tv/talking distracts me.  but when I watch TV i can tuen anything out

You're a nocturne, no big deal. You'd do yourself good to seek a night job when you leave school, where nobody bothers you, you can put on your headphones, and go to work. I work 2 night jobs, starting at 6 pm and ending at 7:30am. I sleep 4-5 hours a day, sometimes less. I love it. You're alright....

Hey, being different is what evolution is all about. Hits and misses.

I have the ability to change my sleeping patterns; I doubt that you can't either. The whole "hearing thing..." I'll have to get back to you about. You may get headaches simply because you don't get out enough to accustom your body to absorbing sunlight. I think the main thing spoken of being absorbed is Vitamin B or something.

If you feel like working out a lot, it's natural. As far as I know, sports aren't. Just do what feels natural and flip the side of yourself that you do those things with to double the positive effects.

Jeez, you are homeschooled, you havent played a sport in your life, you ahve the urge to work out and are probably not doing it, it hurts when you look out your window, I would hate to think what it would be like if you went outside. But waking up at 1pm is normalish for a teenager.Jowell91

no....I do do it.  So you would say I'm very weird then?

Are you saying I'm one of the next steps in evolution? I don't believe in evolution.  I do believe in the possible existance of destiny.  I always wonder what i was destined to do.  I want to do something big...

[QUOTE="champion_tyler"]I don't play video games often at all (maybe 2-4 hours a week) nad I don't watch much tv either (I don't have cable). In regards to OCD, I can be compulsive to some extent, so it is possible. Still, I am not that stressed or depressed overall. I just overreact to some things and I get stressed for little reason. Still, that doesn't explain my incredible hearing, resistance to sunlight, and being nocternal.champion_tyler

why don't you seek proffesional help, just in case...seeking help on gamespot ain't gonna get ya fixed

I just want to know more about myself and if anyone else is like that.

funny you mention this becasue im exactly the same way as you.

Just look at all of your negative problems and accept them

Channel whatever emotion you feel and do something creative.

Negativity can be constructive if you percieve it that way.

BTW I went to bed at 4:00AM and woke up at noon....... and im homeschooled heh.

Cool.  Yeah, I don't do traditional homeschool.  i do distance ed.  It's college work, but it's free and you do it over the mail and internet.  Two years of it will get 11th and 12th grade out of the way because it gives highschool credits.  two years will also get my freshmen year of college out of the way.  The main reason to do it is it saves a lot of money.  It would probably be really hard for those who are used to having a teacher.  My mom taught me at first when i was doing traditional homeschool, but then I taught myself in the highschool years, and now I do distance education :)

ur an owl?

since ur nocturnal, ur obviously resistance to sunlight, and since in the night u lack great eyesight (unless ur a cat), ur other senses would improve, such as ur hearing.

Your sleeping habits sound like mine over the last week, and the same for exercising . . . but not the hearing issue. Maybe you're just feeling restless.
