what advantages are there when using gauge 10-46 guitar strings as opposed to

using 9-42 gague guitar strings that come with most guitars?

Lower tunings, but more tension on the neck. They make hybrid strings now in which the 6th, 5th,4th strings will be as if you have 10-46's and the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st will be 9-42's. I have a Paul Reed Smith in which I use these hybrid strings on. I've used all the way up to 12's before for B# tunings. Overall if you arent going to go any lower than Drop C, I would say the hybrids would be good. Its the best of both worlds.
