What does OT think about wearing geek culture T-shirts with game logos or having phrases from geek culture? I haven't worn any geeky shirts since high school, but I'm thinking of picking up a Game of Thrones T-Shirt with the Lannister symbol on it. The T-Shirt has a nice design, nice color, and many people won't recognize it as a Game of Thrones shirt unless they actually read the book/watch the show. Would you wear something like this outside the house?

A lot of them are quite cringe inducing.  Things come, go, and stop being funny pretty quickly.  So seeing someone wearing a grumpy cat t-shirt they bought from Hot Topic last month is funny, but not in the way they intended it to be.  To each his own, however; wear what you want.

It doesn't matter to me. I like the geek-speak on an old favorite of mine:

or maybe this:

TC, that t shirt isn't geeky at all. Game of Thrones is crazy popular.

I would wear that shirt. I'm blond and typically agreed to be an arrogant, prideful douche.

That's awesome.

Most geeky T-shirts are lame as hell and way too obvious.

When they're subtly done they can be quite cool though.

Love them when they're not stupid. I have a couple. I am blessed to be a short girl because it means I can wear boys' size tee shirts and I've found a few retro gems at thrift stores over the years.

A lot of them are quite cringe inducing.  Things come, go, and stop being funny pretty quickly.  So seeing someone wearing a grumpy cat t-shirt they bought from Hot Topic last month is funny, but not in the way they intended it to be.  To each his own, however; wear what you want.

I'm torn on Hot Topic. They do bring a lot of things back and provide them to the masses, but the 'five minutes of fame' crap like internet memes and online fads like grumpy cat are ridiculous. I can't say I wouldn't be all over some of their stuff, like the Harry Potter or Sailor Moon lines they had out, but they do have a LOT of rancid crap that nobody should ever pay money for. I have been so over sassy phrase tee shirts since I was 10.

I am not all that interested in these kinds of shirts but if I were interested, I would only buy the shirts with game logos I liked and consciously avoid the ones with phrases on them.

It is annoying to see people so pathetic that they feel the need to wear (a highly simplified aspect of) their identity on their shirts. "This thing on my shirt represents my interests/values in some way. Look at it. Look at it."

I've got no problem with video game shirts, or something with a subtle old-school reference.

Putting meme images on a shirt though? That's just f*cking dumb.

To be honest, some of the shirts can be kinda an icebreaker into meeting new people/fans of whatever is on the shirt. Which is why I generally suggest it to some other people. As for funny or meme shirts unless you are buying it to enjoy the lulz yourself... finding other people to appreciate it is tricky so I never mention those. As for me, I don't really buy a lot of clothes like that well a lot of clothes in general anymore. I think the main reason why i bought any t-shirts like that is because compared to the female clothes in most stores I feel most comfortable in them because of my bust size. I see females way bigger than I am trying to wear these cute female tops and it looks like it's about to rip off and explode or something.

How is that counter culture? I'm not sure it gets much more mainstream than Game of Thrones.

It was before the everybody now watches it fad. Back when it was all about the books and even the 1st season of the show. Now it's branched out into other sectors, although most of the hardcore fans are still geeks.

I cringe when I see the meme ones, but I cringe at memes anyways. The ones that are just super hero symbols or something like that, I don't mind. I don't wear any, but I don't see anything wrong with them.

But even meme shirts are better than shirts for women that say "Porn Star".
