[QUOTE="lazerface216"]

[QUOTE="Ninja-Hippo"] I know some people don't like the Beatles, this is an unfortunate fact of life. These people are an underclass of society that require treatment and education, not scorn. Mcspanky37

exactly, if you can't at least appreciate what the beatles did for music then the problem is with YOU AND YOU ONLY.

I can appreciate what they did for the music industry just not what they have recorded

and that's fine, what they did for music in general goes far beyond any single person's opinion of them.

[QUOTE="001011000101101"] Lyrics = the words. Vocals = the sound. I like the sound of the human voice. Couldn't care less about the words that's being sung.001011000101101

Then all I can say is that you're missing out.

No, I'm not. I know what I like.

Thats something a close-minded person would say admitting that there is no other music talent out there to find enjoyable shows how unhealthy your music selection really is

I've tried listening to rock music, and I hated every second of it. It's just not for me. People have different tastes in music, and calling people close-minded, because they know what they like, is ridiculous.

As true as that is, knowledge and understanding comes from all sorts of mediums, including music. That's what I meant. To disregard the lyrical value of music is to undermine loads of talented people with something actually worth saying in their passion.

I don't care about the artist's message. If he/she makes good music, that I enjoy listening to, I'll listen to it. Lyrics are not needed, for me to be able to enjoy it. I enjoy the music, not the poetry. I'm not asking you to share my view, but please don't tell me I'm missing out on anything, just because I don't care about lyrics at all. I don't need the artist to tell me what to feel. If the music is good, it'll speak for itself.

You're aguably not listening to the music if you're ignoring the dominant element of it.

Also, it's not even necessarily the artist telling you what to feel. :|You sound a lot like how I did prior to exploring lyrical content more critically.

You're really working on some twisted logic here. Granted, yes, everyone is allowed to listen to the music they like and in what manor, but just because you have the freedm to do so does not mean that you aren't missing out or aren't undermining the artist's hard work.

You don't even know what I listen to, so how the hell can you even say that? I don't want to listen to rock music. It has nothing to do with me not wanting to expand my taste in music. I've given it lots of chances. My dad constantly listened to rock music during my childhood. I just don't like the sound of it. It means nothing to me. Apart from a small selection of tracks, I just don't gain anything from it. I just can't take people like you seriously. You sit there and judge my taste in music, just because I don't care for lyrics and rock guitars. You have no idea what I actually listen to, and you're acting extremely arrogant. Get down from your high horse, and accept not everyone has to enjoy the music you enjoy.

Yeah everyone has the right to enjoy what they enjoy....but if you give genres a chance...there is always good music to find within any genre. I used to listen to only rock but now I listen to a much wider range of music. Which is great IMO.

When I was a kid I used to think rap was the sh*t then a left that genre for a while and listened to some old school heavy metal bands and then got into progressive metal which was the genre I guess opend my tastes to a bunch of different genres such as Ambient, Classical, Black Metal, Death Metal, some Folk Russian metal

Some of mine:

2. Madonna>Michael Jackson. Sure, he can dance and sing better, but he repeats the same tricks over and over again whereas she experiments more and has an overall more interesting back catalogue. MJ never made anything as sophisticated and artistically-daring as the albumErotica. Her videos are better too.

3. Ray of Light>Thriller. Ray of Light is an atmospheric masterpiece with a mystical feeling to it that is truly captivating. Thriller is just a collection of good to great pop songs.

5. U2 is boring and Bono is a boring vocalist. Same goes for Coldplay outside of a few songs.

9. With the exception of rap, lyrics don't matter that much. What is more important is how the words fit the melody.

GreySeal9

I agree with you that these are unpopular opinions.

I give every single genre a chance. Every single one. I enjoy everything from Brian Eno to Current Value. Or Erik Satie to Venetian Snares. There's just some genres I can't enjoy. I'm not going to sit down and force myself to like something. That's not the point with music. We're all different. Our brains react different to different sounds. My brain goes into sleep mode as soon as I hear rock music. That's just how it is.

1. Nicki Minaj is actually a fairly decent performer when she isn't trying to be a "rapping" Lady Gaga

2. Tha Charter IV is Lil Wayne's best album

3. Nu metal isn't completely terrible, there are good bands that don't get as much attention as Limp Bizkit.

4. Music doesn't have to be technical to be good

5. Nickelback is medicore at best, definitely not the worst band of all time.

6. Dark Side of the Moon is also mediocre, Animals is a better PF album

7. Dubstep is insanely catchy and a lot better than club music

8. Smoke on the Water is a terrible song

1. James Brown is a better performer/artist than Elvis Presley.

2. Little Richard is right...he did invent rock n roll, everyone stole his stuff, and he doesn't get enough credit.

That's all I can think of for now.

I don't know, what one group might find unpopular will be popular with another but I guess I'm not a big Rolling Stones fan outside of 1 or 2 albums same with The Who I like orchestra music depending on the mood sometimes. Elvis Presley is mediocre in terms of actual music quality. I like some dub step as I don't categorise myself with genres I listen to everything. Eminem's new material is horrible compared to old. I don't see it alot even though I'm sure many will agree but Funk music should make a comeback. Many women in mainstream music in the past 5 years undermine their talent by producing generic, run of the mill, rehash music and of course mainstream music has been 90% terrible in the past 5 years which some casual music listeners will disagree with because their ignorant.

Okay. I'll try and out it like this. I listen to tons of different music. I really do. I have no problems with vocals, I just don't think they're needed. That said, some of the stuff I listen to do have vocals. If you really want to hear some of the stuff I like... well, be my guest.

I like this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43EDrLxKAKg

And this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkVT2NwiAgY

And this too:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99vyCglXyPE&feature=related

And this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gmx4MUY7a7M

And this also:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94uxx7nbmCM

And this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dN3GbF9Bx6E

I also like this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM54ja7p86U&feature=relmfu

And this one:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyw-_JxwFPY

And this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qkMYxt4XYs

Also, this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhYxzgqiXCo

I honestly don't know what you want me to say. I think I have a fairly wide taste in music. I like all kinds of electronic music, jazz, piano and guitar music, ambient, drone music, noise music (at least, some of it) etc. etc. I like to keep my ears open for new things, but I just can't enjoy certain genres, and lyrics will never be my main focus in music. As long as the music sounds good to me, I'll listen to it.

It's more a matter of you haven't yet found music with lyrics that you can relate to, enjoy, or whatever the case may be.

I'm not trying to belittle your opinion, 'cause that would be lame. Since you haven't even providied what type of music you do like, it's hard to understand how you have this view.

Okay. I'll try and out it like this. I listen to tons of different music. I really do. I have no problems with vocals, I just don't think they're needed. That said, some of the stuff I listen to do have vocals. If you really want to hear some of the stuff I like... well, be my guest.

Nice choice on the Aphex Twin

I like Machine Head and White Zombie more than Pantera. Plus, I also like Killswitch Engage's Holy Diver version than Dio's. Although, that one is good, too.

Deathspell Omega and Neurosis are perhaps the greatest metal bands of this generation and a fine example.

Rikardur
Can't stand Deathspell Omega, I think they are sterile and overrated. There's my unpopular opinion. I also believe their more of a noise rock band than a metal band (Neurosis also).

The Beatles are overrated Lady Gaga is the most unoriginal artist of today. 99% of singers today cannot sing. Rihanna is just a pretty face Spice were better vocally than what people give them credit for. Kurt Cobain wasn't that great.

Not gonna lie, some really interesting, good stuff here.:D

But like I said, I think it's more of you haven't yet found lyrical music that makes you feel compelled to focus on it. But power to you regardless, legitimately enjoyed some of these songs you shared, particularly Venetian Snares.

at least she writes her own music and can actually play an instrument. that's more than you can say for most radio music these days. but yeah, as a person, she seems like a total fake.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'it's evident you look up Warp Records', but I'm definitely a huge Warp fan. They've released some excellent stuff. Also Planet-µ for Luke Vibert, Machinedrum and Ceephax. And Ninja Tune for Wagon Christ and Amon Tobin. Everything released on Rephlex and Skam is excellent too. But enoug about that.. this thread is for unpopular opinions and controversy. Oxygene by Jean Michel-Jarre is good, but also quite overrated. There, I said it. Go ahead and rip me a new one.

Deathspell Omega and Neurosis are perhaps the greatest metal bands of this generation and a fine example.

Can't stand Deathspell Omega, I think they are sterile and overrated. There's my unpopular opinion. I also believe *they're more of a noise rock band than a metal band (Neurosis also).

It's understandable and acceptable that a man with your taste in metal cannot embrace both bands. But the one thing I do not condone is your connection of sterile to DsO but avoiding to place such an adjective towards certain bands I spot on your last.fm AND calling them noise rock (as with Neurosis -- really now?). There is more to metal than fruity power chords and majestic backdrops. But yeah, subjective and all that jazz...yehyehyeh.

Death metal causes people to become murderers, that it equals screamo, its for stupid people (despite being incredibly complex from a musicians POV) and all the other nonsense.

That can be applied to all kinds of metal aswell tbh.
