Same exact thing with me. I moved here from New Orleans, where white people are a minority. The town I went to high school in was like 98% white. Was funny considering I moved there from the DC area and probably less than a third of the kids I went to school with were white.

It's kinda funny or sad.. You go into the city near me (I am in suburbs) and it's almost split 47 white 45 black and it's a total crap hole of a city. I work there and don't even like driving through it. White people don't like the city I guess. AutoPilotOnWhite people used to live in the city. Then they left for the suburbs. Now many black folks are moving into the suburbs.
That neighborhood that I used to live in in New Orleans was considered the suburbs, and it was mostly white in the 80's. More black folks started moving in during the 90's. We left in the 00's when the black population was about 65%.
It's continued to increase since I left and it's now 80%.
I don't know all of the reasons behind it, but what is a fact is that the neighborhood started getting dangerous the more the black population grew. Our house was burglarized twice, our car was stolen 3 times and it wasn't recovered the last time. Our next door neighbor to the right was burglarized once. Next door neighbor to the left was robbed in her house at gunpoint. Neighbor across the street was burglarized. A guy was shot dead through his windshield down the street... it had something to do with drugs. The guy that lived two doors down was an old crazy black guy in a wheel chair who was always drunk... like a stereotypical guy in a wheelchair in a ghetto neighborhood like you'd see in the movies.
It used to be an average middle class neighborhood, but it turned into the ghetto real fast.
Now it seems like many white people are moving BACK into the city in the gentrificated parts.
Live in the border of something like this.
53% Asian
39% White
6% Hispanic
2% Other
Roughly... Median income household 148k.

The census has 2012 population estimates for cities over 65,000, but mine is only 61,000. But I was able to find data for the school district, which includes some parts of nearby suburbs.
I live in Burnsville, a suburb of Minneapolis.
The population is 63,756 (about 61,000 in Burnsville).
49.7% male, 50.3% female
76.8% white (73.7% non-Hispanic white)
8.7% black
0.8% American Indian
7.7% Asian
3.2% mixed
5.8% Hispanic
Median household income: $64,708
Right now I am an exchange student. Living in Berlin. My area " is known for its very large percentage of immigrants and second-generation immigrants, many of whom are of Turkish ancestry. As of 2006, 31.6% of the inhabitants did not have German citizenship. While it thrives on its diverse culture and is still an attractive area for many, the district is also characterized by high levels of unemployment and some of the lowest average incomes in Berlin."
However the area I live in in Stockholm is "rather than being known as a slum, it is now known as home of bohemian, alternative culture and a broad range of cultural amenities. Meanwhile, the growing demand of housing, as well as an increasing gentrification of Stockholm's central parts, makes apartments in the area more and more difficult or expensive to come by. Thus what was once a working-class district is now somewhat a district of the privileged."
Oh, cool. Another Minnesotan. :) Isn't North Minneapolis the true scourge of the Twin Cities though? What part of St. Paul rival North Minneapolis in terms of hellishness? The racial makeup of the city was 60.1% White, 15.7% African American, 1.1% Native American, 15.0% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 3.9% from other races, and 4.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.6% of the population.
St. Paul Minnesota which is the state capital and a not so nice part of the 7 county metro area.
