Well, what exactly would you want to know, how the Netherlands are like for a tourist?
Hard to compare to England or Germany though, unless you're talking about the "typical average" inhabitant, is that what you're looking for?
I heard they have Europeans there. The_Ish
I lol'ed at that, Mostly because I find that smilie hilarious.
Oh and.. Is it true that prostitution is legal there? I remember watching a movie, can't remember which movie, where they were in some kind of town in the Netherlands and there were prostitutes sitting in front of some glass ( just like clothing commercials and stuff )...
aren't the Netherlands under sea level? that means Global Warming could pwn them :o O NOES! save teh Netherlandz :|m4gicm4rtyProbably watched An Inconvenient Truth.
It's... pretty damn boring. Not to mention that there are not that many tulips here, perhaps in a particular small area and no one wears clogs here. :|
There aren't that many windmills either.

oh and pure lives here too.. ^__^enormousaxieI liek this pure you speak of.
It seems like such an awesome and relaxing place. Maybe it's just my stereotypical windmill and big open grassfields...But it just looks like such an awesome place from the millions of searches I've done. How does it compare to England or Germany? For anyone who has been there or lives there, I gotta know. I've been to Europe 4 times and have yet to go there.camreeno360Don't come here. We hate tourists..

Well the village I live in has 2 windmills...
I live near Groningen which is anything but borring. Great spots to go party. Nice people. We actually have a lot of grass:P Really for a tourist I think the Netherlands, especially Amsterdam is a great place to visit. Compared to England. I can't see many differences. But don't compare the Netherlands with Germany. Germany is just a borring country.
Oh yeah and do you prefer being called Holland or The Netherlands. I guess The Netherlands is the politically right way to say it and I heard Holland is just a part of the country.
And why are you called "Dutch"? Why not Hollish or Netherlandic or something?

We aren't called Dutch, thats what English people started calling us. I'm sure you can find the actual reason on the internet.
I'll tell you why it's called Holland as well though.:P Holland used to be one province of The Netherlands, and it was the richer province where all the trading happened, so people just started calling it Holland. Now the area that was called Holland is divided into two provinces; Zuid-Holland and Noord-Holland (I'm sure you can figure out what those mean:P)

Yes we are under sea level, but so is DeathValley in the USA.
I used to live in the lowest place in the Netherlands, 11 meters under sea level I think.

Except for me!
How old are you, how tall are you and how tall are your friends? (just curious).

Hey I'm wondering, do you learn Dutch on Curacao?
The Netherlanders/Dutch are tall :|AznsilvrboyI read somewhere that they're the tallest country in the world, with the average man being something like 6'3! I'm 6'0 and even after going to Germany I totally felt dwarfed and I've never felt that way ever.

Well, Dutch is one of the spoken languages in our educational system, so yeah:).Another thing, why does it seem like every Dutchman speaks fluent English and how the language is so widely spoken there? It's almost like a second native language. camreeno360
English fluency is lower than Scandinavia I think but it's taught in High school and a Lot of things on tv are in English and we use English words a lot too.

Well, there's a couple of reasons:
- They start teaching it at school when you're about 11 years old.
- Movies and series are not dubbed. (except for some cartoons, which is too bad :( )
- You won't get very far only speaking Dutch ;) I'm not sure how many people around the world speak Dutch, but it must be a very tiny fraction of all people who speak English lol

So can you randomly walk up to almost anyone and say something pretty fast in English and they'll understand what you said? Based on youtube videos, there were interviews in English, Dutch people freely speaking English...Is it just the more urban areas? Most of the country? Almost everyone? Please Log In to post.
