I believe that you've grossly understated the amount of political affiliations available.
Personally, I'm libertarian. I think the government should focus on running the country and stay out of social issues. I like small governments that can more effectively meet the needs of its constituants and I can't stand the inefficancies of large public programs.
As far as fixing "unbroken" programs, could you clarify? With the baby boomers moving further into retirement and life expectancy growing, isn't social security a program that is fine as it currently stands (debatable I know), but will eventually cause a collapse in the fiscal stability of our nation?
Can someone give me a brief idea regarding each political party's ideology?
I'm rather curious but I'm not American...

depends.
theres fundamental differences between the republican and democratic. at the absolute core of them you could say one favors a republic and the other a democracy.
republicans tend to be more free market conservative, and lately socially conservative as well.
democrats tend to be much more leftist with their economic policy and are socially liberal.
But heres where it gets weird. There are right wing democrats and left wing republicans.
now, in modern times its essentially two parties that are about big government and the only real issue is wether we should be socially liberal or not.
neither of them offer any hope or solution to anything in america.
Libertarians are conservatives(free market in america) in the finance department and liberals in the social department.
I dont know much about the green party, but obviously theyre environmentalists and I think theres a bit about decentralization with their ideas as well. I dont know though

I believe the "green" party was created well before the "green" movement and has more to do with being a third option than with environmental issues. The basis of it had more to do with futhering the ideas of ross perot than with actually gaining any large political sway.
It must be really boring when you're rich.
