I don't really know anything about this Friday thing... but I'm assuming it means sales... so games I guess. Yes, thousands of games. o_oSandro909Me neither, but I'll be buying some movies and games too. ^_^

Basically, it's a marketing scheme. For the fiscal year, most companies are still in the red, meaning that they haven't yet made any money to overcompensate for the operating costs and turn a profit. Black Friday is the day that they finally break out of the red and into the black. This was the old reasoning, but I don't know if it still applies. Probably, though.
Anyway, I'm hoping to convince my parents (yes, I'm twenty and I still don't drive) to drive me to Walmart and maybe to State College and someof the bigger stores there. My credit card hopefully won't get too much of a workout.

Black Friday is so called because of all the traffic on that day. It's the start of the Holiday shopping season. The season itself is what gets the retail outlets into the "red"....and not one day of sales.

Just thought I'd add to what the other two already said, as I know one of you lives in Great Britain, that Black Friday always follows Thanksgiving Day...and then what the other two said about it.
I used to work in retail when I was living in the States, and I hated working on Black Friday.
