Personally I like 90s rock bands and others from the 60s to the present.

I wouldn't call that many types of music.

I'm not asking you to post more bands, I'm just saying that's not all that many genres.Right now, if I were to pick five, they'd be the following:
Dream Theater
Disturbed
Iron Maiden
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Killswitch Engage
There's probably about 10 more favorites, and they're always changing, but right now, these would be the top 5.
Lets see.... Pink Floyd, The Killers, Interpol, Modest Mouse, She Wants Revenge, The Bravery, and lots more.

I don't want to get into a discussion about this, but metal is rock, so I'll end it there. You can disagree if you want, that's fine with me, though.[QUOTE="Cerussite"][QUOTE="atst007"][QUOTE="Cerussite"]You just named a bunch of alt. rock.[QUOTE="atst007"]Ok, I'll be more specific, I was just stating that I like many types of music. Not even close.
Look, since I don't want to get into an argument about this, I'll end it after this (I promise), but your clear misunderstanding of what I wrote is just egging me to reply, so I apologize if I'm a hypocrite (not about metal being a form of rock, about other things).I do disagree, and I bet I could give you 50 reasons why metal isn't rock. The most obvious one being, IT HAS A DIFFERENT NAME.

Metal IS a subgenre of rock. Contrary to what YOU may believe, there is no major distinguishing feature from rock to constitute metal as being anything more than a subgenre of rock. So it has a different name? Zydeco has a different name from folk music, but it's still considered folk music. Stop being elitist and look at the facts, metal and rock both share enough things in common to differentiate between the two.
Okay, I'm done. I feel like I'm arguing to prove that a rapist is a murderer, too. It's just odd.

It all depends on how you look at it. Like I said in an earlier post, metal mainly originated from rock. As a result of this you can easily find similarities between the genres. Being in the same category, however, is incorrect.

I'm not disagreeing that they aren't punk, but they're the manufactured kind, much liked blink-182.

Exactly, the same with the other subgenres. And jazz and pop ARE different genres.[QUOTE="atst007"][QUOTE="Cerussite"][QUOTE="atst007"]There's also classic rock, heavy rock, punk, and soft rock in their. Sorry, I don't like country.
