Lets face it. We are all going to die on this rock. But space is full of cool stuff. Talk about it and post your favorite things in that huge cold expanse!

Here are some of my favorites.

Titan.

Saturns famed moon Titan is the only other place in the solar system to have liquid lakes (one of which is bigger thanLake Superior)and the only moon to have a atmosphere that isn't total crap. Sure the lakes are made of deadly methane and the air would kill you in seconds but it is full of organic compounds that make it as unique canidate for space colonization in our solar system.

File:Titancloud.jpg

Clouds on titan.

File:Huygens surface color.jpg

The surface of Titan.

Ganymede.

Oh whats this you ask? Only the biggest moon in the SOLAR SYSTEM! You think that moon you see every night is big? Well its got nothing on this thing!

File:Noaa ganymede.jpg

It has an awesome ice crust.

File:PIA00519 Interior of Ganymede.jpg

Europa

Europa is another moon of Jupiter and slightly smaller than our own moon. It is speculated to have liquid water lakes underneith its surface which make it an interesting target for exploration. It also has a tenuous atmosphere made mostly of oxygen and has one of the smoothest surface in the entire solar system. Some are proposing a probe which will drill into the liquid water and explore. Some suggest that it might harbor life similar to life found in geothermal vents on Earth.

File:Europa-moon.jpg

File:Cryobot.jpg

Callisto.

Like Europa Callisto also has water and stuff. It looks pretty.

Space is cool go check it out.

Saturn, picture taken on its ring plane by the Cassini space probe. The thin blue line are the rings, which are actually on 10 meters in thickness. The tiny blue dots are moons.

Eta Carinae. A star that's so big, hot and bright it can't even sustain itself.

It's also theorized as the next star to go supernova. Unfortunately, not in our lifetime.

Supposedly the gas that's shooting out of that star is the length of our solar system.... I doubt our nukes would even be a light snack for that beast.

Hubble's Ultra Deep Field.

Dystopian-X

this

its not the prettiest, nor the most detailed, but it just shows the near-infinite potential for whats out there. I mean, you see that, and its not even a fraction of whats out htere, and you just HAVE to assume there is some sort of life, be it plant or animal, out there. I know space is, well, mostly empty space, but looking at that you just cant help but feel comfortable.

The pic below is of two Galaxies merging, which will take millions of years. A suprising thing is that because a lot of a Galaxy is empty space the odds of two suns colliding is remote.

Our solar system, viewed from WAY back.

It's amazing our tiny sun's gravity attracts such a huge amount of debris.

Supernovas. Especially if they create a gamma ray burst. It'd be awesome to actually get to see one happen at a decent view (that won't kill you).

Seriously, that's barely scratching the surface of the vast scope of things, yet many humans are still arrogant to think we're the only civilization lucky enough to have evolved in the cosmos... If even just ONE star in every 10 galaxies had a planet near it capable of supporting life, that'd still bethousands of civilizations out there. Not that will ever get to meet any of them, but perhaps that's how God wanted it to be.
