I just put gas in my car today and wanted to get a sense of what my other OTers are paying.

The prices in Ames, IA are as follows:

  • Super Unleaded(10% ethanol) 89 Octane Rating= $3.44/gallon
  • Regular Unleaded 87 Octane Rating = $3.54/gallon
  • Premium Unleaded 91 Octane Rating = $3.71/gallon

I got 7 gallons of regular unleaded to fill my tank.

Oh, you mean petrol and diesel. I thought you meant gas as in household gas used in boilers and old cookers. You know, gas gas.

Where I am the price is around $1.109 a liter. Which is about $4.76 a gallon.

holy crap. Why is it that much there?

I live in central Iowa and my local news station did a story about Orlando gas prices. They think it has to do with it being a prime spot for rental cars due to that being where a lot people get off planes when vacationing to Florida. It is spring break time for my college starting next week so they are jacking prices. Some attorneys are launching price gouging investigations though.

I am currenlty paying£1.31 per LITRE of petrol (not even diesel)!! That's approx.£5.90 per gallon.

According to current exchange rates that's $9.55 USD per gallon so if y'all think $3.50 is bad you can jog on.

Oh I just go without things I don't need like DVDs. Or food :P

Seriously though it is crippling, my commute is only very tiny at 8 miles each way, but for people like long-haul lorry drivers and cab drivers it has made life extremely difficult indeed.

Yep, diesel is at about $11 a gallon, and every day you read about more haulage companies going out of business.

It's around 3.60 a gallon for regular down here in South Florida. That's the average from what I've been seeing. It stinks.

I have always known that our European friends pay more than double that what we pay for fuel. I can remember paying $2.00+ a gallon back in the early 80s while I was stationed on Okinawa while fuel here in the States was under $1.00.

I also don't complain about the price of a gallon of gas as it is still the cheapest thing we can buy by the gallon. Once people start complaining about the price of Windex (and it is mostly water), then I'll give 'em a break.

The length of an average person's daily commute in the US vs the UK is significant when considering petrol prices, the distance we travel to work is often less than the distance it took my ex-sorta-in-law-people to drive to the local supermarket! In relative terms even small price increases are far more detrimental for you guys since you burn through so much of it.

But like I said before businesses who need a lot of petrol here are really suffering.

(NZ)$2.16per Litre for 91 octane

$2.21 (I think)per litre for 95 octane

Hate to imagine what 98 octane is but no doubt will be rather insane

$1.61 per litre for Diesel.

About 1.16/L in Toronto I think. I'm not sure, my parents never make me buy gas :P

Whenever I see american prices, it takes me a little while to stop wondering where you have to be living to pay so much and realize that you guys use gallons.
