Fascinating to think about the morality questions that it raises, but the movie itself is absolutely horrifying, in my opinion.

the book or the film??

I can barely understand what's going on the book, but the movie is quite good though still overrated.

I thought it told the story about choice of morality pretty well, though it didn't touch upon anything new or thought-provoking.

The ideas are amazing in both the film and the novella but in the former some of the violence is hard to watch.

Didn't care for the movie. Seemed like a tasteless attempt to make something profound that failed miserably.

One of my favorite movies of all time. The main character is so evil, but at the same time, so likeable. It really does a great job critizicing society. It has so many shocking scenes. I had to watch it more then once to truly understand it though.

The book he read (the US version) didn't have the final chapter. Although he did say even if he had known about the final chapter, he wouldn't have included it. Also, the final chapter is terrible.

I respectfully disagree with the bolded part. Because I see that some haven't read the book yet...
Much of Alex's criminal activity stemmed from his immaturity and lack of life experience. The last chapter was a way of showing that he had grown up, matured, and realized that his actions had consequences, without the need for the radical treatments imposed on him by the scientists.
Yes, it seems to come from left field, and it does seem to be out of character from the rest of the novel. However, given what happened to him up to that point, it does make some sense.

(Of course, that's my opinion, and you're welcome to disagree with it at will. :D )

Fixed the spoiler. Sorry.

I haven't read the book, but I know how it ended. I think the movie is better off without the last chapter. It would've been a really awkward ending, and it would've taken away from the themes of the film. Again, I haven't read the book for myself, but I have discussed the differences between the film and the book with friends, and the conclusion I've reached is that while the book and the film are both similar in nature, they are two independent works making different points.

I haven't seen the movie yet (its on my "to do" list), but I liked the book. It was incredibly dark and nihilistic at some points while I also felt nothing but contempt for the main character (though I guess that was the point), but it had a good morality play and was well written and paced.

One of the most over-hyped pieces of crap ever made.

It reminds me of people at an art gallery, staring at a blank canvas and saying things like "it's brilliant", or, "the artist is a genius, this really speaks to me"

Gimme a break.

One of the worst movies of all time, right up there with 2001 (ironically the same director). I don't hate all of his work though, Dr Strangelove is one of my favorite films.

I enjoyed the movie when I watched it in high school many moons ago (with a little help from Mary Jane). I suspect if I watched it now, I probably wouldn't find it as entertaining.

i loved it so much i thought it was so humorous and well done everything from when he beats the old homeless man up which was somewhat entertaining in a messed up way to breaking into the mans house. man malcolm macdowell plays alex better then anyone could have i think i was surprised when i saw him in the entourage haha i recognized the voice but hes aged so much. of course this film isnt for everyone different strokes for different folks as they say. i bet theres people out there who enjoyed the human centipede :/

Brilliant movie. Tried watching it when I was a teen and couldnt get past the "old in and out" part, turned the movie off I was so shocked. I watched it a few months back now and loved it, dont know why I was so disturbed about it all really. Amazing make up, acting, very brutal but in a artistic way.

The last chapter is included in the latest releases of the novel. I had to head for Borders when I re-read it recently to finish it off.

I was anticipating a possible argument against including the final chapter in the movie. It's a trick I learned from reading "Helter Skelter."
