what are your thoughts on romance?

i personaly cant stand romance films becouse i know they are just actors acting and therfore i dont give a crap about the charecters(witht he exceptions of chaseing amy and 50 first dates which i found inbcredibly enjoyable) but for some reason in anime i tend to get into a love interest 80% of the time. mabey they just handle them better and theres more tension but i seem to love romance anime or love interests in anime for some reason.

what are your thoughts

I have never watched a Romance Film. They don't look appealing to me.

My favourite genre is probably the romantic comedy. I even like the bad ones. I also tend to become more emotionally involved with anime romance.

One of the reasons is that rom-coms tend to be highly unrealistic. Two people meet, flirt and are in love within a few weeks. End of movie. Anime series tend to be 13-26 episodes in length and span from months to years. Good ones (including just movies) are His and Her Circumstances, Escaflowne, 5 CM Per Second, Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in our Early Days.

For live-action romance (since you don't like them) I can really only recommend When Harry Met Sally... (unless you don't like Billy Crystal/Meg Ryan, in which case I still think it's worth a shot) because it is hilarious, charming and the romance takes a realistic amount of time to develop.

I'm sorta in the middle. I mean i don't like romance but at the same time it seems like such a nice feeling. Its like watching a skydiver. It looks terriying but at the same time you want to try it.

Romantic films are pretty much chick flicks. Not many guys would probably like romantic movies.

Romantic films pretty much suck. There's only a handful that're actually of merit. That being said, I still find myself watching them :lol:

Well I don't mind Notting Hill or Wimbledon... Quite enjoy popping one of them on on a rainy sunday afternoon, glass of wine, bowl o' olives. Used to keep the GF happy as well...

I don't watch romantic movies too much. The only one I really enjoyed was 500 Days of Summer, which was actually quite realistic.

Romance is a good genre so long as it isn't built around a pair of caricature characters. One of my favourite films is Breakfast at Tiffany's, and I'll use Holly Golighty as an example of an interesting, unique character who helps the movie avoid falling into the dull formula that plagues most romance storylines. The film's ending is one of my favourites. >_>super_mario_128

As for romance films made by Hollywood, they are almost empirically crap and stale.

The film version of Love In The Time Of Cholera is worth investigating, though. It was funny and provoking, without being cheezy and predictable.

Am I going to be the only guy here to admit to liking romantic movies? And I don't mean movies like the Notebook.
