@chessmaster1989: I was expecting you to name at least one of the man with no name trilogy. It's alright I'll do that for ya.
I don't rank my favorite movies. Also I have a lot of them. So I just randomly named 5 of them.
I'm not a big movie guy, so I haven't seen many films. My list changes quite often. This is a rough (unordered) list:
Honorable Mention:
Django Unchained
@chessmaster1989: I was expecting you to name at least one of the man with no name trilogy.
I don't know if I should speak for chessmaster here, but...he did lol. TGTBTU is The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
lol yeah TGTBTU is The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, I was just feeling lazy :P
In no order:
Inception
The Dark Knight
Interstellar
The Return of the King
The Two Towers
The Prestige
Oh, that's six - well i'm not really sure which one to take out so...
1. Brick - Film Noir but not in black and white. Exceptionally well shot for a small budget film. Joseph Gordon Levitt is superb.
2. Heat - DeNiro. Pacino. Kilmer. Judd. The list goes on. Oh and the bank robbery scene is amazing.
3. Gangs of New York (honestly, anything with Daniel Day Lewis is worth watching, simply for him)
4. Blade Runner - The Directors Cut. The one that should have been released.
5. The Big Sleep - Because Film Noir at its finest.
6. Bull Durham - Yes, I know you said five. I made a list of ten and was going to whittle it down to five. But I can't leave this off the list. In terms of movies in general, it's not top 5. But because it involves a sport that I love and so accurate depicts it, it's awesome.

"The Shawshank Redemption", "There Will Be Blood", "It's a Wonderful Life", "Memento", and "Rashomon".
In no order:
Dead man down
Return of the king
Mission impossible 2
Empire strikes back
The Dark knight rises
.
Honorable mentions: Jurassic park, Inception, The Hobbit, Interstellar, Terminator 2.
This is a very difficult thing for me since I'm quite the fan of cinema and my preferred movies are not static, so I'll just write the first 5 movies that come to mind that I really loved when I saw them.
1. Happiness of the Katakuris
2. Lovers of the Artic Circle
3. Akira Kurosawa's Dreams
4. Touch of Evil
5. Dead Man
That's an impossible question, but just spit-balling...
There are so many others I could have on here, which also deserve a spot. Raiders of the Last Ark, Last Crusade, Anchorman, Ace Ventura Pet Detective, The Godfather I and II, Full Metal Jacket, The Shawshank Redemption, O Brother Where Art Thou, Rounders, Zoolander, The Royal Tennenbaums, Rocky IV...these lists are impossible.
@FreedomFreeLife: slumdog millionaire? lol you are either indian or an idiot.

One of the highest rating movie. Movie is about story, life and meaning, not about big action transformers like you like.
Movie also won 8 oscars
Makes you believe that "You can win"
When you leave the theater after watching it, you are left with positive vibes
Also, the movie is brutally honest. All the social evils and practices really happen in our country. No director has ever been bold enough to portray Mumbai for what it really is.
On the whole, the plot of an under dog rising through all kinds of ranks to win the game-show was something which left a good taste in everyone's mouth.
99% other movies are just action movies, where has beggining, middle action/shooting and ending
I wouldn't even put Spirited Away in the top 5 ghibili movies. For shame.
Cannibal Holocaust
Natural Born Killers
Have you seen the full-length, unexpurgated version of Caligula (1979)? Based on your top two selections, I'm guessing that you would appreciate the movie.
Incidentally, it's on YouTube at the moment and it appears to be totally uncensored.
:-O
Linking to it or embedding it would be a rather brazen violation of the GS terms of service, but it should be easy enough to find. It was the 2:36:03 version that I watched.
In no order:
The Shawshank Redemption
Goodfellas
Back to the Future
Star Wars
Terminator 2
Not a definitive list but these are some of my favorites
Night of the Living Dead
Aliens
Alien 3
Fistful of Dollars ( If that's the one where he cuts the boiler plate ;) )
The Dark Knight
Hmmm....
This isn't a definitive list but....
In the Mood for Love
Chunking Express
Infernal Affairs
Spirited Away
and the Lord of the Rings trilogy
....are all solid contenders for the top 5
I wouldn't even put Spirited Away in the top 5 ghibili movies. For shame.
two years later i'm definitely taking those off the list, spirited away is still a favorite though
