So I was reading in the USA Today the other day and read that eating processed meat often (hot dogs, lunchmeat) can increase the risk of colon cancer by 21%!!!

Both sides of my family have cancer in their genes (and my mom died from cancer), so this really shocked me. I had just started packing my lunch for school to save money (otherwise I end up spending $7 a day at the school coffee shop), and had been packing ham and cheese sandwiches.

So today I took a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on wheat bread, which wasn't really satisfying. I was looking for some ideas of what I can pack that doesn't require heating (though I can use the microwave in the student lounge, I'd prefer to just go out to my car), and doesn't contain processed meat.

I'm probably like 98% likely to get cancer already, I don't need 21% more...LOL (I mean there are like 6 people on boths sides of my family who had cancer...)

It seems as though everything gives you cancer... To be honest, I don't think anyone has a clue.

Eggs, they are proven to fill you up more than most other foods. Just cook some for breakfast or in the morning and pack them for lunch.

I would just eat healthy foods, and drink lots of green tea, which is loaded with antioxidants, which help reduce cancer risk. Just live more healthy.

ive eaten plenty of processed food products and my colons are just fine. i think if you enjoy lunch meats, then you can afford to take the "risk."

EDIT: lol, maybe humans only have one? i forget. but its in perfect condition dammit :x

its the additive in the processed meats called nitrites, which causes the problem (has people worried). drinking orange juice or some form of vitamin C before eating the processed meats can neturalize its affect. So just consume less processed meats but when you do, drink a little oj to reduce the affects it has on your body. I tried to sum it up they way I read it from an article.
