Sadly it was only the USA and USSR that attained the rank of superpower, the rest were just "great powers", apparently.

Its a shame Mongolia never advanced from the days of Genghis, they are still goat herders living in wooden huts.

this is what it says on wiki

superpower is a term first applied in 1944 to the United States, the Soviet Union, and the British Empire. Following World War II, the British Empire ceased to exist as its territories became independent, and the Soviet Union and the United States were regarded as the only two superpowers, then engaged in the Cold War

OK then, I was taught that to be a superpower one required a significant amount of land, resources and more importantly nuclear devices.

yes your right about that however the British empire had significant land resources from the lands it conquered and without the British there would be know nuclear devises one of Americas terms in coming into the war was that the British had to surrender its atomic research to them if the UK had made an atomic bomb a few years early they would still be a superpower today ;)

I think the Roman Empire could have been considered a superpower back in its peak, they did pretty much conquer all of Europe.

I think they've all been said, but:

Portugal
USA
Russia/Soviet Union
Britain
Spain
France
Rome
Egypt
China
Germany

All I could think of. I'd say Japan, but I think that was only within itself rather than throughout a large area like the others.

A superpower is a state with a leading position in the international system and the ability to influence events and project power on a worldwide scale; it is considered a higher level of power than a great power

During the 90's the US at one point was considered to be a hyper power A hyperpower or omnipower is a state that is militarily, economically, and technologically dominant on the world stage. The term was first used to describe the United States in the 1990s, but has also been applied, retroactively, to earlier states like the British Empire
