Recently, I stopped using MS Office, as I refuse to buy another obnoxiously overpriced suite of programs (80% of which, I wont use). I recently downloaded Pages 09 and I have to say as a Word replacement for a simple word processor, it isnt bad at all. I mean I use Scrivener for stories, and I tried Mellel and the layout didnt grab me, though I hear it has quite a few nice features.

The bummer is, Word is kind of the industry standard for typing stuff, whether you're in school or a business office, everyone uses MS stuff. (even though any good word processor nowadays can read and save as or export to .doc files.)

So what do you guys use?

I've been using Google Docs for all of my school work. It's free, and I can access them from anywhere, including my phone. I forgot to finish an essay, so I finished it on my phone on the way to school. Then, I went to the library during homeroom and printed it.

I was using Libre, but my formatting got messed up every time I printed (I email my documents to an HP printer that's hooked up to a Windows PC). Now I use Google Docs, the best part is being able to access my documents from any computer using any OS.

I use Microsoft Office Word 2007. Works great most of the time and don't really see the point of switching to anything else.

Plus didn't they get rid of the helpers when Word changed format? I remember when I was in school, we'd make ALL the spelling control helpers be the cat instead of the dog or Mr. Clippy. Ah, nostalgia.

I use Word now though I used to use Open Office. I had some complaints that stuff I did in Calc was not coming through properly in Exel so I needed to get the cheapest version of Office I could get. The company I work for uses Office and everything is done in Word or Exel.

As I am so familiar with older versions of Microsoft Word and am so often having to write heavily formatted papers in Turabian style, I tend to just use an old version for school papers. Also, as I already have so many papers saved on my computer, I'll just take old papers and insert new material in order to keep the formatting. However, if I am writing anything else I tend to use Open Office.

Word 2003 and sometimes 2007. I agree with everything you said. Can't be arsed to switch to anything else, though.

Apparently, LibreOffice is even better. I'll give it a try one of these days.

I used Microsoft Works 4.0 (Came out around 1995) for years, but I eventually switched to Microsoft Word, because I got office 2011 for free. However, after getting increasingly frustrated with Microsoft Word's byzantine systems for adjusting fonts and the like, and their use of pictures instead of useful menus, I've now switched to using Google-Docs for everything.

Stopped using Word after the disaster of '07 and haven't looked back from Open Office. May try Pages out for my Mac someday, but I still do most of my word processing on my XP desktop.

LibreOffice, currently. I also use Notepad++ at times.

In the past, I used AbiWord. A pretty buggy processor (I can't particularly recommend it). But I used it to start off my fiction writing, and it will be important to me just because of that. :D
God bless,

That's only because GhostCrawler is actually helpful, unlike Clippit.

Argh, he was always there every... single... time... I wanted to do anything! Fortunately some of us were able to convince the computer teacher rather quickly that we didn't need that guy poking and pointing every 13.2 seconds.

Abiword because it comes standard with Xubuntu, my current Linux distro of choice. Not that I do a lot of word processing in the first place.
