The Vick case has always blown my mind, it seems like you have to have some extreme view of him. Either your a animal rights nut or you justify a serious felon. I personally feel that Vick is more a symbol more then anything else. A symbol that the U.S. Justice System is a inconsistent joke as well as a joke that the NFL has little to no disapline and is without a doubt in my mind the most courpt major sports legaue in the world.

What other sports league could you comit 2nd degree manslaughter, serve less then 30 days in county jail and still be allowed to make millions of dollors playing a game?

I personally try to look at the Vick case for what I see it as....

Big time football player, possible furture hall of famer.
Word gets out he's part of a massive dog fighting operation.
Gets arrested, bailed out, admits to all sorts of crimes including the drowning and electrocution of dogs.
Gives a okay apology speech, however I felt had some bad wording.
Facing up to five years in federal pen, ends up only getting the better part of two years and on top of that only serves a weak year and a half with a few years of probation.
Then gets right back into making millions in the NFL. And as far as I'm aware has done little to nothing to show any remorse or change, other then a few speeches to kids and a tiny bit of work with the Humane Society.

But a few things that I never understood about the Vick case is where is the Micheal Vick Animal Crultey Prevention Fund? And why hasen't he ever gone under any kind of a mental study to see what's the problem with him since I remember when he was on 60 minutes he more or less said he did it out of peer pressure and not being able to stand up for himself, and I remember thinking either he's a big wussy or has some mental issues to comit some of these crimes.

Anyone who thought he was a future hall of famer is insane. He wasn't even that good.

I think he's served his time and should be allowed to play. He's terrible though, so I don't really understand why the Eagles signed him.

What I don't understand is all these people protesting Michael Vick yet nobody really cares about Donte Stallworth who killed a person.

Do you really feel he served a legit sentance? Most people serve a year and half on minor drug charges not taking part in a MASSIVE multi-state, big money dog fight operation.

What he did was screwed up, but I think almost 2 years in federal prison was about what he needed. I wouldn't go out and give him an endorsement deal if I was Nike or whatever. However if I was an NFL GM, and I felt he could help i'd sign him.

He's a jerk, and a symbol of how easy it is to get off charges and jail sentences if you're a big name celebrity or rich.

If you want to compare him to other people, let's compare him to Donte Stallworth (who I mentioned before)...DUI manslaughter and he got out in 30 days.

The justice system is screwed up, but I don't think he got out of prison quickly because he was Michael Vick.

Why? First off he served a weak year and a half which like I just said is what most people get for minor drug charges not taking part in large dog fighting operations. Second it shows any type of criminal can play and make tons of money.

I mentioned Stallworth in my first post, who I also thought was a big deal. However it gets little air play, and FYI he served less then 30 days in county jail (not even prison). And I never said he got out because he was Michael Vick, I just felt he served a insanely short sentance, and has never really faced much of any justice.

He went bankrupt while in prison and is now in debt...and once his contract with the Eagles is up, I doubt anyone will sign him because he hasn't shown that he's a good quarterback this year. He'll be in economic trouble for the rest of his life.

Yeah I know people like to stress that point that he went from the highest paid player to being in massive debt. But personally I think that's one of the lesser points to be made in the larger picture, the main one being his crime. Though I know what you mean, also I thought he had a possible second year with the Eagles?

I'm not sure how the contract is exactly, but yeah, I think he might be coming back for a second year. Even if he does though, the amount of money he's getting paid for this year and next year is nowhere near the amount he needs to pay off his debt.

Hall of Famer? He lost that chance when he started dogfighting, Vick is ok recently on the field but won't be drafted by the big teams

Plus noone gives a crap about Donte Stallworth who yeah killed a person

Basically the people think that multiple dogs are more important than a murder

He did not go to jail for murder (it was something that could happen to anyone...hitting a person jaywalking, not the drinking part)

I'm perfectly fine with Vick. My main problem is that there are people in the NFL now that have hurt and killed people, yet Vick hosts dogfights and the whole world goes into one big cluster**** trying to get him incarcerated for life. Shows how simple-minded the world is.

I admit people have tended to freak out more on Vick then anyone else but then again Vick is one of the bigger felons. But I think it's been a problem in the NFL for a long time, like I said in the first post I made I see him more as a symbol.

The only way he'd be a HOF is if HE took a team to the superbowl a few times and win a few MVPs and having consecutive stellar seasons---NOT happening. Not seeing that happen anytime soon seeing as he's not getting any younger. As for his career, he'll probably start for an NFL team next year. Can't see the Eagles taking the option on him for that much money. As to where he's gonna play, who knows----Raiders???

Anybody who abuses animals deserves the death penalty, period. Get these people off the planet now. And I'm not just talking for the sake of animals here, I'm talking about people as well. Because believe me, it's not a very big jump from showing violence towards animals to showing violence towards humans.

And what, his multi-mega-bazillion-dollar sports career wasn't paying the bills? Abusing dogs was just what he had to do to put food on the table? He deserves the death penalty just for being a prick of epic proportions, let alone his complete lack of conscience.

Society is truly hideous, and this whole fiasco is just one more shining example of how warped people really are. It's disgusting.

Why do people care so much? They are blowing the situation way out of proportion. The guy did dogs fight (yes it is cruelty to animals and illegal). He went to jail and served his time for the crime. Now he his is back in the NFL and people still wont let the situation die. I know Vick should not forget what he did, but we should not always rub the man's past in his face. You would think he was OJ or something.

I think he is a disgusting human being who ought to spend the next decade in prison for what he did to those animals. Beyond fighting them, he also electrocuted some of them, drown several, and himself mutilated a few. This isn't your average joe, but a very sick man. I think the NFL should take a moral stance against people like him and other wannabe thug **** who think that it's okay to break the law. In my world he would be in prison still and the NFL would never in a million years consider allowing him back into the league.

1. Mike Vick spent 2 years in jail for a gambling ring. He served his time, you know he went to prison for 2 years, and he has paid for the crime he committed. 2. killing dogs is pretty sick, but I don't see how you can justify banning a guy for life for it, since it had no correlation with the NFL. 3. It's dogs, not humans, if you're going to catch feelings over killing animals, why not become a vegetarian, because the animals you get in your happy meal or bucket of chicken aren't exactly killed in humane ways... 4. Mike Vick has proved the last few weeks he is a viable football player, so to deny him that opportunity is ridiculous.

[QUOTE="JN_Fenrir"]

Anybody who abuses animals deserves the death penalty, period.

St_JimmyX

That applies to farm animals also? Considering how all animals have to be slaughtered to reach the dinner table.

Factory farms, yes, absolutely. What goes on in those places is so terrible, it's unreal. Everybody should read up and watch the videos of these places. Your health is on the line here too!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a total bleeding heart. I do realize that eating animals is part of the natural order, and I eat plenty of meat myself. But there is a pretty clear difference between (humane) slaughtering for food, and outright abuse or torture.

EDIT: Wacky forum autoformatting. :P

He did his time. What do you want? I believe in second chances - he committed a crime and was punished. Now, he has a chance to move on with his life. That incident destroyed his career and cost him millions. I think he paid quite a price for it. Animal cruelty is a bad thing, but he did not kill any person or harm any human being.

wow...something wrong w/ a person that tortures them -a part of me can kind of understand dog fighting the sport (saw an interesting Spanish movie on it) -but not the torture of anything he deserves the right to play though...though owners have the right to not hire him...and his play has been subpar at best

There's a lolcat for this. I'd go find it, but I've wasted enough time replying to this post already.

He served his time. (which I think was way too long as it was) Let him play.

As QB, I'm not a huge fan. He's alright...

Yea I don't get people's obsession either. They're better off in my stomach (which they often are;)).
